Title: Marshall's beer in This Land
Post by: Ed W on June 28, 2010, 03:27:33 PM
It's a short article, but the photo can only be described as lush:

Where can I get one of those shirts ?
I would make a great large walking billboard.

The shirts are available for purchase anytime the brewery is open. They have several for sale in the main lobby area. One of the on duty brewers will usually be available for a quick sale.

On a related note, I heard Marshalls is expanding into an attached building. Sounds like it's still going strong.

Well, sure it is.  Conan, myself and several others do enough sales to keep it going...

In all seriousness, though, I'm glad to hear it.  Couldn't happen to a nicer or more hard-working guy.

I had a Atlas IPA last night. Helping to fight for the cause of good beer everywhere.

I'll drink to that!

Eric needs to chime in here, the clerk at the Country Club Plaza liquor store told me Saturday there's a new black IPA coming August-September from our beloved brewer.

Yes Conan, This is true, El Cucuy, a Black IPA will probably be out sometime in August.  It will be limited release in 22oz. bottles only.  We have not brewed it on the big system yet, as we are still putting the final touches on the recipe.  Black IPA is a relatively new style of beer that has come on to the craft brewing scene in recent years.  The Black part of this beer strictly denotes the color and doesn't have a lot of roasted or chocolatey characteristics like porters or stouts.  El Cucuy's hop profile will be significantly more pronounced and aromatic than Atlas IPA making it a bit more on the aggressive side.  El Cucuy will be the first in a series of beers that will have a completely different look in terms of label design as compared to our core and seasonal brands.  The name for the beer was inspired by Latin American superstition.  El Cucuy is the Latin American version of the Boogie Man whose name alone strikes fear in children and some adults.  Be good or the Cucuy will get you!

Thanks to everyone for all of your support!!!
Eric

Eric, ever thought about moving your brewery downtown?  Definitely understand your current location but it would be awesome to have a brewery like yours downtown, specifically at the corner of 1st & Elgin in that old brick building..   :)

I'll keep drinking my fair share of Marshall's, especially Atlas Pale Ale.

You apparently don't know what a PITA it was to get the place he's in now built.  ;) Nightmare after nightmare.  I sure wouldn't want to do that twice.

I read about the trials and tribulations and was going to make a statement to that effect.  While it would have been nice for him to start there (I seem to remember reading that he had looked at places downtown---Eric, correct me if I'm off-base here---and they were cost-prohibitive), he's in a good location for moving his product to locations around town.  Close to 244, close to the BA where he can essentially move out from any direction.

That and very good access for trucks coming and going with minimal disruption to area traffic.

And, right next to the railroad tracks.  Think BIG.

The Examiner has a home brewing writer here in Tulsa:

http://www.examiner.com/x-16115-Tulsa-Home-Brewing-Examiner (http://www.examiner.com/x-16115-Tulsa-Home-Brewing-Examiner)

She not a prolific writer, and she does specialize in the home brewing aspect since she owns a business devoted to it.

But I had an errant thought - perhaps one of the folks here on the forum would be interested in writing about beer since the Examiner also recognizes 'craft brewers'.  Is that the same as a home brewer?  I dunno.

If anyone is interested, you can contact the Examiner directly, or get in touch with me and I'll put in a word with one of the editors.  Full disclosure - I do get paid a head hunter's fee.  It ain't much, but it'll pay for some beer (if only I could drink it.)

Yeah, the capital investment that has been made at the current location will make it hard to move in the new future. Not to mention that location at 1st & Elgin is not going to be sold anytime soon. Regarding the transportation, correct me if I'm wrong, but he doesn't have to worry about that very much. That would be more the distributor. If the beer is ordered by customers, the distributor would go wherever the brewery is located to pick it up.

Out-of-state owner?  Wants far more for the property than it's worth?  It's a cool old building, reminds me of the Upstream Brewery in downtown Omaha hence why I've always thought a brewery/brewpub would be appropriate there and a draw to the Blue Dome.

If twe're talking about the red building, from what I've heard is it is filled with lightbulbs or something and the owner has plenty of cash and no desire to sell.

That's usually the story behind many desirable buildings.  What is reputed to be the old Ford dealership on the NE corner of Main & Cameron across from the Hunt Club is another example.  I've heard the owner is in his 90's and no desire to sell.  Some people claim they don't want to pay cap gains on a sale as a reason or using part of the building for storage or whatever.  The real problem seems to be somewhere between a hoarding issue and a pride issue of being afraid of selling an asset for too cheap.

That old dealership, by the way, has some great tile work in it.  It would be a really cool restaurant/bar or restaurant/retail/loft development.  I salivate every time I go past it.

It pisses me off when people do nothing with these properties for years and wait for the values to go up.  So many great things could be done with these properties now.

His new brew, El Cucuy has been said will be ready December 1st, if I'm not mistaken.  It's an India Black Ale, for those who like them.

I had two of them Saturday. Ahhh the memories.
I wish they would become a year round instead of a seasonal.
