You have to admire a guy who keeps a dog-eared copy of the United States Constitution in his pocket.

I wonder if those pesky 13-15 amendments are included in his copy.

Sad that he has now passed away.

He sure brought home the federal dollars to his state. I wish some of that attitude would carryover to Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn.

" Long known as a champion of pork, Byrd in 51 years in the Senate (and decades on the Appropriations Committee, which he once chaired) funneled billions of dollars to West Virginia.

"People accuse him of pork-bellying it all over here," said John Fanary, who runs a hair salon in Byrd's home town of Sophia.

But as Byrd said during a 2001 Senate floor debate: "One man's pork is another man's job. Pork has been good investment in West Virginia. You can look around and see what I've done."

Billions of dollars later and West Virginia is still a smile-hole and the second worst economy of the 50 states.

I wonder if he will be buried in his Klan robes?

I will be lighting a cross, er candle, in his  memory. But seriously, peace be to him and his family.
