Post by: Juan Mad Okie on June 07, 2010, 02:59:56 PM
its June 7th and haven't heard a peep about any fireworks displays going on this year, but then my exposure to tulsa media is limited to about 5 minutes a day.

so what's going on where? and where should it be the best?

I haven't heard a word about fireworks displays this year. Odd there haven't been any announcements yet.

Isn't this how it usually goes, they wait till the last minute, threaten not to do it, then some corporate patron steps in?

The fireworks after the Driller game during the final pro race at Tulsa Tough Friday night was totally cool

Well I hope they don't have the company that did it last year again this year. I had people out to watch the show and it really sucked that it was over so quickly. It is usually such a great show.

I don't know, the family and I had a great view of the bridge exploding. Made for some interesting stories for the next few days.

Yeah, last year was a bust, but that happens when the whole thing blows up on you.

Maybe get some more expertise this year?

Well there's this...

You can take a quiz to get money for our 4th of July.

I took the quiz to help us get $10,000.  Why not?

It's 8 questions and all simple.

And you don't have to get the questions right--just complete the survey and enter your ZIP code for it to count toward Tulsa's FreedomFest.

I grew up in Skiatook, so I always enjoyed going to Fantasy in the Sky on Skiatook Lake. Hundreds of boats on the water, reflections of the fireworks on the water... it's nice. Last year, I saw the Duck Creek display at Grand Lake. It was so-so compared to its hype.

I didn't see it last year but heard it sucked.

It caught fire, so you can't blame the organizers.

2010 ONEOK FreedomFest Set

Tulsa - The Tulsa RiverParks Authority announces its Independence Day celebration plans Tuesday.

ONEOK FreedomFest returns to the area around Zink Lake June 29th through July 4th. Key corporate sponsorships and donations will ensure that the show will go on with no money coming from a tight city budget.

More than $100,000 dollars is needed to hold the celebration. RiverParks officials say the organization is still soliciting donations. They hope to raise the remaining $8,000 from donors and small citizen donations by way of utility bills. 8 Talkback:

Folks who attended last year's fireworks show will remember that it was a bit of a dud. An explosives tubes fell over, igniting a whole trailer of fireworks and ending the show just after it began.

RiverParks executive director Matt Meyer says the Missouri company that was hired didn't get any more money beyond it's initial, non-refundable deposit of 25 percent.

"This year we went through another 'request for proposals' process and selected Zambelli Fireworks, which is one of the oldest and largest American fireworks companies, and not the one from last year," he said.

The show will feature fireworks synchronized to music that will be broadcast over Tulsa radio station 92.9 FM. News Channel 8 is a proud sponsor of ONEOK FreedomFest and will air the grand finale during our 10:00 p.m. broadcast.
