Did customers drop off as a result of that?

It never seemed that busy everytime I went there, but I always attributed that to the time of day that I'd go (always around 3pm during the workweek).

That is too bad, I wonder what will take its place?  That area around 18th & Boston is in need of a streetscape.  Push the angled parking closer to Boston and improve the sidewalks next to the buildings.  A few planted trees would really go a long way to improving the look of that area.  I like all the outdoor seating and mix of restaurants and bars.

I was walking to Doubleshot last Friday and noticed none other than Carlos Atilano of Senor Tequila scoping the former Oscar's site out with a handful of people.  One of the guys he was with was carrying a contractor's notebook... it'll be interesting to see what goes on there..

Hopefully not a Senor Tequila.  A Mexican place is fine but I'd rather see something new and original, or better yet Peruvian or Spanish (tapas).  Something like 1492 in OKC is a new take on Mexican/Latin that would be a good fit here.

They already did the tapas thing on that corner.  Went out of business Dalesandro's is there now.  Somebody call Tom and tell him to re-open Steamroller Blues! :D

I noticed they recently put up a sign for "Treehouse".  They have also been doing a lot of interior construction work.  Looks like a new restaurant.  A Google search turned up that they have applied for a mixed beverage permit so there will be alcohol served.   :)

Good to see a vacant spot filled in the Sobo district.

I saw a couple of interesting things last night related to the former Steamrollers/Oscar's space and Tom Dittus (Steamroller/Blue Rose).  First there were two cargo truck/vans parked outside the Oscar's site and people between the trucks and front entrance.  I'm assuming they were likely unloading fountain equipment.

Also, for those of you who have not been down to the Blue Rose/Elwood's site since it turned off cold, the pedestrian overpass which crosses the trail to the restaurant is in.  The exterior looks mostly done and they were working on the interior of the new Blue Rose last night.  No idea what the opening date is, but it looks like much of the mechanical systems were in including the kitchen vent systems.  This is great to see finally.

Really hoping that area eventually gets a streetscaping project.  If possible I'd eliminate the parking spots out front of Dalessandro's/1740 and make the patios and sidewalks larger with parallel street parking along Boston.  Add some trees and that could really be a nice strip.  Dalessandro's and 1740 are already two great places.  I like the neighborhood feel of the area and a streetscape could improve that.

While more aesthetically pleasing, it seems like you'd make a bad parking situation even worse.

I disagree.  There are 3 enormous parking lots  and 3 smaller lots within a block of the area and street parking along 18th and along Boston.  Evening parking and night parking is always easy to find.

Yeah, but for the un-fit people, that's asking an awful lot, to walk a block.

It'll keep the Southie trouble makers away.  Nobody wants to watch those mouth breathers chew anyway.

The McDonalds is at 15th and Peoria.

Yep plenty of parking in the vicinity.  Larger sidewalks along Boston with street trees and larger patios for Dalessandro's, Vintage 1740 and Treehouse would be a big improvement for the area.  Hopefully then the small parking lot between Treehouse and Grindstaf Cleaners could be developed into a retail/restaurant storefront as well.  The same thing for the parking in front of DoubleShot, that would be better as either angled parking or a continuation of the larger sidewalk along Boston (w/ adjacent parallel parking like the rest of Boston) with room for a big outdoor patio, something that coffee shop really could use.

I say this with only positive thoughts in my mind for success of their venture.  What the Hell were they thinking when they approved that site?

Best wishes to them.
