Title: Fassler Hall, new Elliot Nelson bar downtown
Post by: TheTed on May 04, 2010, 12:32:14 PM
This was in the latest Elliot Nelson email newsletter.

QuoteWe are adding a new member to our growing family of bars and restaurants.  Fassler Hall, located between 3rd and 4th on Elgin, is inspired by the great beer halls of Bavaria like Hofbraeuhaus.  It will have amazing beer selections and live music. We plan to open our doors before the end of the summer.

Lockers will be provided to store your own beer stein.  To reserve your locker space, please contact Brian Fontaine at thecolonytulsa@gmail.com

Next to Olsen-Coffey Architects?

Yeah, they've been working on sprinklers for a couple of weeks now.

I'm assuming this isn't the bowling alley. I remember hearing that a bar was going to accompany the new bowling alley but didn't know if it would be a completely separate establishment with maybe an internal door separating them or if the bar would be in the bowling alley.

The bowling alley is next to Dilly Deli on Elgin between 2nd and 3rd while this new place is on Elgin between 3rd and 4th, next to Olsen-Coffey which is at the SW corner of 3rd & Elgin.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Is anything currently in the Blue Dome itself?  That would make a cool location for a bar/restaurant with outdoor seating and landscaping around the 'dome'.  It could be Tulsa's version of The Mont in Norman with a small bar/restaurant inside with the main attraction being the patio around it.

Last I saw, Blake Lund was using the bottom floor as the office for his trolley business.

The upstairs is an apartment.  The old manager of route 66 diner was living there a while back.

The downstairs was connected to the bar at one time but the hallway was bricked up due to ABLE law issues if I remember right.

The McNellies group uses the blue dome building for their offices. I think they lease from Sager.

I've always wanted to acquire it and paint the dome red or something just to mess with people.  Temporarily of course, but I still think it would be funny.  I would like to see it restored and something interesting done with it.

Since the Blue Dome is considered one of the iconic symbols of the City of Tulsa it should be better presented than with a gravel parking lot surrounding it.   I wish who ever owns it would put a little money into it.  Fix it up some, do a little landscaping around it.   Make it look more Iconic.

Exactly.  Seems like the perfect project for Eliot Nelson if they already lease space there.  It is the Blue Dome district after all.  An outdoor patio like the Mont here would be an amazing addition to downtown.

That would be Michael Sager.  He can't even finish condos that he got Vision 2025 money for much less pave the parking lot at Blue Dome/Arnies and landscape it.  He's good at getting things done from a logistics stand-point but his finances always seem to be pretty binary.

Is this still scheduled to open by the end of the month? Looking forward to testing out the homemade sausage and pretzels.

A recent post on their facebook page suggests a mid-October opening. I'm definitely looking forward to a liter or two.

They have a website now, with beer and food menus.

I drove by several times this week and could see in at the work being done.  It looks more than a few weeks from being ready for opening, but a lot can happen quickly at the end.  The Dust Bolw also looks a long way away from opening.

I checked out the menu seriously hoping to curb some of my bavarian food/beer cravings at this downtown locale.  Disappointed, I only found myself missing Royal-Bavaria in Moore.  I'll have to make a road trip soon....

Fassler looks like more a German bar/restaurant while Royal Bavaria is more of a restaurant/bar.  Definitely a place to check out if you're in Norman (located in far south Moore off Sooner Rd. surrounded by farms).

When is Fassler's expected opening date?

Walked by today. I would assume they might seal the floor and put in furniture before opening.

I walked by today and checked it out. The guy I spoke with there said that they would hopefully open Thursday, but definitely by next weekend! They have several picnic-looking wood tables in there now and a few other things they appeared to be working on, but it's looking good and close!

Nelson said Friday he hopes to open Fassler Hall, a German-style beer hall, by next weekend at 304 S. Elgin Ave.

Targeted for January 2011 openings are the Dust Bowl Lounge & Lanes, 211 S. Elgin Ave., and Brady Tavern, 5 E. Brady St.

"The Dust Bowl will feature eight retro wood lanes with manual scoring."
How many people know how to keep score in bowling?

The how to keep score part is easy, especially if you don't spare or strike.  Always leave one standing and you won't need to remember if you add the number of pins on the next one or the next two tries.  Forget about the third box in the tenth frame, you won't need it.

Will anyone be able to do the arithmetic?

The menu they had on their website a week or two back must've been premature. Now they've taken all the content off the site.

Still going to keep my hopes up for more than bar or cart food!  Spatzel, snitzel, dumplings, and the like...traditionally speaking Biergartens serve solid meals.

Siegi's at 81st & Sheridan is currently the best Biergarten in Tulsa, IMO.  Great food and a good selection of German beers, as well as a German market.  The only downside is its location.

+1 on Margarets.  I've not been to the new Siegi's yet.  I've been told the sausages at Margaret's come from Siegi.

Depends on where you live/work regarding the location.  Works fine living near 111th & Memorial.

The Deli section is what first got me there.  They have some Italian hams that I've only been able to find there and at Petty's.

I've also had lunch in the Gasthaus.  I liked it.  I agree with the decent selection of German beer.

Went there last night.  Great bar.  The manager, Brian, said the bar top was re-purposed from the wood pulled out of the soon-to-be bowling alley down the street.

Good beer selection.  The bartender, Aaron, was very friendly and informed.  Jeremiah, in the back, did a hell of a job on everything we had (pretzels ("piping"),  Geflügelwurst, and andouille).  The fries are very good.

They've not finished decorating yet but I liked the high ceiling and huge tables.

From what I understood they'll be doing some Oktoberfesting in the parking lot to the South.

I made it down this weekend, too late for sausage but I was able to get some fries (fried in duck fat) and pretzels.  Both were excellent!  (Just FYI the only thing on the menu for vegetarians is pretzels)

Love the authentic mugs and the non-smoking.  People next to us went out for a smoke and left their menu across their beers so they wouldn't be thrown out.  I tried to tell the people who removed the menu but they weren't bothered enough to listen over the DJ...
I'll go back but will try to hit it up on a weeknight sans DJ.
