Title: Philbrook, Parks, Rose Garden etc.
Post by: HoneySuckle on May 03, 2010, 02:10:33 PM
Have you all been enjoying the flowers around Tulsa this spring?

I visited the Rose garden twice in one week :o  Went with my son first, then my daughter, then my husband and daughter yesterday afternoon.

We also visited Philbrook about three weeks ago, and around that time, I checked out Hunter Park, Swan Lake and Woodward park.

Soon it will be too HOT to be out!

Took my kids to have a picnic once, and was planning on having it at woodward.  Of course the day I decided to do this, there was a wedding going on there and some other event in the mansion lawn, so I couldn't even find a place to park.  Ended up just going to QT park.

Went to Philbrook and walked the grounds yesterday.

It's free every first weekend of the month if you have a Bank of America debit or credit card.

I love that place.

Yup!  Been to the zoo, Philbrook, Hunter Park (flew a kite and had a picnic, too!), LaFortune Park, even LaFortune Tennis, etc...

My friends and I were wishing that Utica Square would have a Spring's 5th Night instead of Summer's 5th Night.  It's too hot in the summer to be out in that heat sometimes.  I remember being very pregnant back in 2006 and was there.  UGh.  I was not very happy then.  LOL!!!  Nevertheless, it's nice that there are free outdoor activities in the summer.

Tulsa is one of the most beautiful cities to be in during the spring.

Can't wait to do my chasing this year.  I always pray from big boomers for me to chase, but also pray they hit rural, uninhabited areas.  I've been through a big whirly, so I know the fear people have for them first hand.

Go back to the Rose Garden in about five weeks...it is stunning in early June.

My first and only marriage (I'm happily divorced) was my idea to get married in the Rose Garden.

Back in 1990 you had to jump through hoops just to do that out there.  Permits, signing affidavits, etc, etc.

It was pretty cool though.  The theme was black/red/white.  I wore an all-white tux (tails/cummerbund), the bride also wore all white, and the attendants (groomsmen, and the ladies of honor) wore red/black.  I need to dig those old photos out and scan them.

But yes, it is.  I got married out there Memorial Day weekend, 1990.

In June?  I thought the roses would all be dead by then.  Some were looking a bit beaten up yesterday.

Did you check out the learning garden in the back?  I love that place.

Haven't been to the Zoo in ages.  Anything new there?

We walk at La Fortune park at least 3 times per week, so to me it's not "special" anymore.  I hate weekends there now.  It's gotten so crowded!  And the mess some people leave behind ::)

Sounds really classy.  Would love to see the pics.  But all that fuss to end up happily divorced? ;D

June is awesome. Yes, I was one of the sponsors of the Linneaus Garden and gave money to support the compost area near the back of the garden. I also serve on the Board of Directors of the Tulsa Garden Center. It is truly a treasure for Tulsa.

And you know why divorces are so expensive, right?

Because they are worth it.

(I think I ripped that off from Recyclemichael).

First time I heard it was Willie Nelson on the remake of 'Dukes of Hazzard'.

oh...did I just admit to watching that movie?

Nevermind...

You watched it to see Jessica Simpson or to see if Johnny Knoxville would do a Jackass stunt, isn't that why everyone saw that?

This weekend (Sunday), we went to the Zoo.  I think it has been 7 years since we last visited.  We noticed that several exhibits were missing.  Not sure what's going on.

It was packed! :o  I am not a big fan of Zoos in general, but I thought our Zoo was nicely laid out, and noticed a few new areas that were not there the last time we visited.
