This should provide great Tulsa World comment section fodder for days about the police layoffs:
Tulsa mayor says his home was almost burglarized
Mayor Dewey Bartlett narrowly avoided a home break-in Friday morning when a neighbor scared away some burglars who were lurking in his Brookside-area neighborhood.
Bartlett said two thieves had already broken into the house next door to his before approaching his home in the the 1200 block of East 30th Place.
A neighbor soon spotted the two burglars and they fled without entering the house. No one was home at the time, Bartlett said.

When was the last time you heard of burglars hitting more than one house at a time?
I think the assertion that the mayor's house was "next" is quite a leap.

Generally when the thieves hit a house, they load up and move out, not go and check out the next house. This might be a sign of escalation as the burglers get braver.
Of course my question is, how long did it take the police to respond?
Maybe they simply were trying to get directions, when there was no answer at the door of the neighbor they punched in a window to see if they could raise someone that way, no one was home so they went next door to try again... ;D
Almost. Isn't that like Horseshoes or Hand grenades
This has been going on in that neighborhood long before the layoffs of the Police......
Your home can be burglarized anywhere, no matter how nice or 'quiet' your neighborhood. I've been burglarized once, when I was living in Denver near the DU campus. It sucks and made me always want to have a good alarm system wherever I live.

There's a lot of deterrence value to having a
real video camera visible at the front door, and you will have a record of who came knocking. Just keep in mind the sheriff will think you are a motorcycle club. ;)
I guess it's like they say "Almost" doesn't count.
