Title: I am Iron Man !
Post by: DolfanBob on April 29, 2010, 11:58:39 AM
Just bought my Iron Man 2 IMAX 3-D tickets.
Are any of you guys or gals going to see this one ?
If so are you going to see it 2-D or 3-D ?

Oh, wait, what? This is going to be in IMAX 3D?  I never noticed an advertisment on that.  Okay, change of plans... now where did I put that stack of money?

I recently heard some information on the big 3-D movie boom. Bue to the $12+ ticket price there is a big push for studio to put movies out in 3-D. However, many times you get duped by "not real 3-d"

Avatar was filmed in 3-D meaning every live action shot was filmed with two cameras and every CG shot was rendered from two different angles. Other films like Clash of the Titans and Iron Man are "converted to 3-d" which means that they are not the same quality. The process, in layman's terms, involves using video editing tools to "cut out around" the foreground objects (Robert Downey Jr for example) and then shifting him slightly to one side to create the image your other eye sees. Alice in Wonderland was partially filmed in 2-D which I guess makes it only half cheating.

I plan on only paying the big money for things filmed in 3-D, not in pretend ones.

So while I'm hyped for Iron Man 2, regular screen for me I guess.
(P.S. Stay until after the credits to see a very important handtool)

I don't even see a 3-d option for this one.  I had momentarily forgotten about the conversion stuff going on in my excitement.  I watched How to Train a Dragon in 3D (Not IMAX) and thought it was great.  I won't be seeing this that way, since it apparantly really reduces the experiance when it is converted.

I am taking my son to see this as a belated birthday present (only three months late but he thinks it's worth the wait).  Thanks for the after credit tip, I'm not sure if I woudl have thought to stay with as little as I go to the theater anymore.  Since caps shield was in the first, I'm going to guess that this one has to be of godly porportions.

Thanks for the info sgrizzle. At the IMAX Tulsa web site they are doing the advanced ticket sales, and you can get 2-D tickets and also 3-D tickets.
You may be right about this being a movie converted to 3-D because the ticket price is 11 dollars as compared to the rate increase to 13 dollars after Avatar.
I still want to see this as big a screen as I can get.

Actually Nick Fury was the after credits scene on Iron Man 1. The shield was in there though. Captain America also appeared in the Hulk movie, but the scene was cut. And of course the fate of Professor Xavier after the credits in X-Men 3.

You are correct on the new one though, sir.

Yeah, didn't mean for it to come across as the shield being after the credits.  And yeah, I went out and bought the hulk movie so that I could find the scene, and, of course, the only hulk movie out when I got mine did not have deleted scenes.  It took me a few times of watching X3 before seeing the after the credit part.

I can't imagine what we have as being a crapped down version.  I've never been to another one, but I'm pretty sure this is the real deal

There is no such thing as a "crapped down version" If it doesn't meet IMAX specs, you're not allowed to sue the name.

I think our screen is something like 35' x 50'

No, there is a crapped down version. IMAX has let AMC install IMAX projectors in existing theaters without the large format screen.

It's what they have in OKC. Cinemark's theater here is the real deal.

3 out of 4 stars. Lots of action. Tongue and cheek humor and great effects.
I was surprised at how much the Director Jon Favreau was in the movie.
You guy's were right. The movie was 2-D at the IMAX. I still didn't mind because this kind of flick has to be seen as big as possible.
I wasnt to impressed with the sneak peek at the end of the forever lasting credits.
All in all worth the wait.

I think I'll second the 3 out of 4.  While not quiet up to the standing of the original, it was worth going to see.  I think the storyline could have used a bit of help but overall it held its own. Scarlet Johannason rocked the movie though, and did a great job playing across from Jon in a couple of scenes.  The after the credits moment was a bit lacking, especially if you don't follow the marvel universe, though it seems that the that part of it is going to start that particular show in more recent timelines of the comic books.  Also, gotta love the second easter egg of caps shield in this.  More obvious, and pretty funny.
