Well I have not been to a concert in many a year. But OKC out did Pryor for the Rock concert of this Summer.
I am only going because I will finally get to see the Scorpions. This is their last Album and possibly the last chance I will get to see them tour.
All the rest of the line up sounds like Rocklahoma's first year. Twisted Sister, Ratt, Warrant, Dokken, Great White, Lita Ford etc.etc.....Here is the link.

Yep, you can tell it's a bunch of original long hairs putting on the show:
"3 Day GENERAL ADMINSSION for ONLY $100"
Like how it is $5 more than rocklahoma for more "vintage" bands.
I'll save my money to see Rush at the BOK...talk about vintage.
Carlton. I just found out about the Rush concert at the BOK.
Looks like a second concert in this calendar year for me.

And he never seems to make anyone's "best drummer" list. He's definitely deserving of it.
Rush was always about the music, not the hype. I watched them in concert on one of the music networks (I think it was Palladia) a few weeks ago. They are still tight as ever.
No soul....bunch of Wankers.
Everything RUSH did after 1980 sucked. They are really really bad live. Their sound is so loud and so dirty I am suprised someone hasn't sued for hearing loss.
I am surprised in you...I thought only sh!tbags and losers liked RUSH. Face it fellas. RUSH will and has always blown.

I've heard Michael Buble's show's described as the same way.
All in the eye or ear of the beholder.
All that said, I prefer Moving Pictures (I must not be alone since that was their only quad platinum and did even more units than 2112- arguably their best work) and earlier the best, but they did some good work later than that. It's simply not your cup-o-tea fotd. But to call their fans losers and shitbags? Really?
Ever notice how crappy the harmonies could get on live Dead recordings? Not just the poor bootlegs? Buncha smelly hippy losers.... at least the ones who coudn't afford patchouli ;)

The meltdown is nigh...I can feel it in the air.
And fotd....get yanked. I've liked Rush since my high school days (Exit Stage Left).
Watch this:
...and tell me his skills aren't other-worldly. This guy is the reason I started drumming.
And their best song?
For my taste, it's YYZ.

One of my favorite memories of local music was watching a three piece cover band take on "Free Will". The bass player had a fretless electric bass and he played the keys part with the headstock of the bass and sang. As far as multi-taskers, he put Bob Dylan to shame. Not like that is difficult anyhow.
(Scolding and more "wankers" from fotd in 3....2....1....)

Never a huge fan of Dylan, but I will admit his song writing skills are pretty damn good.
That's what makes Peart an aberration. He's a drummer who writes music AND lyrics. And his music (to my ear anyway) is always good. People may not be into his newer stuff, but he's evolved so much since Signals. Especially after the death of his wife and his daughter, which pretty much forced him out of the music scene from 1998 to 2001.
Yep, count me in at this concert.
I love Buddy Rich. I hired him one of the year's I was chairman of Mayfest. He played on our stage in front of the courthouse.

and don't get me wrong; I love Buddy Rich. Probably influenced more modern drummers than I care to guess. But as far as modern drummers go, right now there are only two who qualify to be uttered in the same breath with Buddy.
Neil Peart
Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
And if you want some crazy time changes in-song, listen to Rush's "Spirit of Radio". I couldn't keep up with that song if I wanted to.
Hoss and Conan have me in stitches....
RM, news for you....OLDAKER, better than Buddy. Seen them all. JO was better than a drum machine. BR could never outdone high tech.
Of course, BK and MH took many more peeps to the outer reaches than these robots.
and then there was BABA!
One of the great drum sessions I ever experienced!
Kinda makes RUSH sound soul less .... not too un like Repigs versus Dims.....ones got the beat and the other ones just plain "beat."
High praises for Jamo, but I don't think you will find him on many top 10 lists. I doubt he considers being compared to a drum machine a compliment nor would he cop to being better than Buddy Rich.
Another one I appreciate is Chad Smith. He's incredibly versatile and a lot of people can't appreciate how hard it is to get funk right. He's proven himself quite well amongst a broad range of styles. Call my tastes trendy just because his main gig is RHCP.
Peart is a musical genius. Party on to yours fotd I will party on to mine.

CoCo, you assume way too much.
JO once played against a drum machine and beat it.....
PS...party? No, more like experience(d).

Can tell you've never been a drummer; much less a musician.
Peart is technically nearly flawless in almost all of his performances. Listen to that Buddy Rich tribute one more time and you can hear plenty of soul and character in the percussion.
Bet you didn't even listen to it.
But to each their own.
Hoss, I think you like totally missed my point....there is mysticism, magic and synchronicity in music between the listener and the artist which you can't get with specific wanker disharmony. And furthermore, there is nothing but spazztic disharmony in GOP shenanigans. There's the linkage.
Anyway, what's with the lack of the really good shows coming to BOK touring the USA...like Santana/Winwood or CSN etc. Things already sliding downhill? Bon Jovi? Crapton? ho hum. Panic should be in the Brady.
Please don't go to 7 Walkers at the Flytrap on 4/20....you'd be outa place. That goes for you too, Conan. That drummer is not in the same league but blazed a mightier trail than the schmoe from RUSH.

Crapton?
You know what coffee and Eric Clapton have in common? They both suck without cream.
Just repeating. I'm an EC fan.
IMO, Jamo would have been an obscure nobody w/o EC.

Schmoe, right. that's why so many people have heard of...who is it again??
And I'm betting in my day I had more "4:20" meetings than you'd ever care to acknowledge.
At least I didn't go moonbat crazy from it.
Ginger Baker? David Teegarden? Watts? Appice? the list is wide and long....would Keith Moon be anything without Who?

...John Bonham.
another example....where would he be w/o Led Zep....

You are talking a totally different league, all those guys mentioned are great drummers. Trying to draw a comparison between them and Neil is like comparing a horse to a cow. Similar but entirely different.
Here's some Crayons, Sonny. Now go play with yourself.

And there's one big difference, Neil Peart is the nucleus of the group. Bonham, Moonie, Jamo... all replaceable, though Zep and The Who were never quite the same...

Wolfgang's Vault is a tremendous site for those who loved music from the late 60's, early 70's and concerts throughout the great Bill Graham's production career. Losing Bill was a heart breaker for those of us that knew going to a BGP show meant magic was always possible.
Do you know the story of how these tapes were discovered? Uncle Bobo had a fire in his warehouse in the early 80's and he believed the tapes went down in flames. When he died instantly in a helicopter crash one rainy evening returning from his Shoreline Amphitheater, his estate was forced to sell some assets. His son David had several trailer loads of memorabilia which he auctioned all at once and the current owner of Wolfgang's Vault won the winning bid only to discover hidden in the depths tapes and tapes which Bill had thought went up in flames. I feel bad for David Graham because he sold a gold mine for pennies on the dollar. Uncle Bobo was clever to retain all rights to this unbelievable treasure trove of historic proportions when he signed his acts.
Check it out....indeed, the best collection of live performances ever assembled. Countless hours of rock and rolls greatest moments!
I lived in the bay area for 25 years. I caught a segment about Bill Graham on it was either 60 Minutes or CBS Sunday Morning a few years ago. They interviewed the guy who bought the building and started the web site. Seems Bill Graham recorded just about every show he promoted and they found the tapes in the basement. Thats how I got turned on to the web site. And just to clarify, Bill and some other where killed coming home from a Huey Lewis and the News concert at what was then know as the Concord Pavillion. Crashed into a tower near Vallejo, California.

Sad though the stuff is for sale. Some of it should be in a museum. Those psychedelic posters are classic. Some of the stuff was hanging in Bill Grahams office when it was set on fire.
I'd say something here that might be used against me in the future at TNF....POSTERS!
QuoteBookmarked. Thanks for the share.
Sure. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. If I remember right, they have a few thousand tapes to go over and convert to the web. They add new concerts all the time from his archives.
Got my tickets in the mail yesterday. Cant wait to see the Scorps.
Now if I can just scrounge up enough money for Rush.
Got my Rush tickets!
And Muse is touring the US with stops in KC and OKC. Muse is a must see!
Well I broke down and got my Rush tickets. I'm in the nose bleeds but I'm in the building. With their show i am pretty sure it wont matter.
The time has come. Tomorrow night at the OKC Zoo Amphitheatre. The final tour of one of Rocks Greatest bands. Scorpions live at 9:30 P.M.
I bought the three day pass just to see them. Here comes some cloud cover and mild temps. It was just meant to be.
Out of all the concerts I have seen over the last 35 years. I did not think I would ever see the absolute best of my life at this age. But Saturday I did.
The Scorpions not only were in concert. They put on one H*ll of a show.
It was worth every penny I spent to see them.

I was in the city this weekend. I think we were talking about going inside off the back patio about the time the Scorps took the stage to go to sleep. I must be getting old...

classmate was talking about how she enjoyed the show. Really get's me because she is like 21 or there abouts. Never thought I would have to explain to someone that the 80's where not like they were portraid in the rock video's (though the hair was pretty much that)
One thing I can say for all of them. Original members I mean. I wish I could look as good and move like they do when I hit 64. Unbelievable.
Wanted to bump this up and let anyone know who is interested that Wolfgangs Vault has now added videos. Old stuff live fom AC/DC with Bon Scott in the late 70's to newer bands filmed in the late 2000's.
