Oh hell no!

This guy has more say on my healthcare now than I do?

He boasts of a fine education:

Prior to his election to Congress, Rep. Johnson served twelve (12) years as a DeKalb County magistrate judge, five (5) years as a county commissioner and three (3) years as chair of the DeKalb County Budget Committee.

Rep. Johnson practiced civil and criminal law in DeKalb County for twenty-seven (27) years. A staunch supporter of public education, he is a graduate of  the District of Columbia Public Schools, Clark College in Atlanta and the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.

I was just thinking. . .

We need to make sure we've got Hawaii tied down real good.  With those big mountains, one gust of wind and the whole thing could blow away.

Oh man, and then the birth records would all be questioned.

Underneath the island, the ground is being eroded like the rock pillars in the Sahara desert.  Stratified layers of abrasives in the ocean currents leave the top of the island unscathed but underneath the island is beginning to look like a tree trunk.  If you put too many people on one side, it will indeed tip over and capsize.  It's caused by ......

a) Global Warming
b) George Bush II
c) conservative talk radio

From what I understand, Johnson has recently had an illness (Hep B?) and it has caused a decline in his mental capacities.  Not sure why they continue to let him serve if this is the case but that is what is floating around about him.

There's got to be a difference between a decline in mental capacities (assuming that is what's in play) and sheer idiocy.

If the decline was continuous, I'm sure that at some point it would have to reach sheer idiocy and beyond

Perhaps. But this position sounds more like excuse-making.

Or, perhaps, an explination.

Apparently we are all wrong. Johnson is just too darn smart and we are just too darned dumb to get his "metaphor":

I read about that, but personally think the statement was actually written by his handlers.  It seems to me more of an attempt to try and hide their bosses failing mental health.

Come on, you have to admit you are really stretching it a bit. If Johnson is that messed up, why in the he!! is he out there voting on policies that affect each of our lives?

Reagan had Alzheimer's.

Wilson had a serious stroke and maintained office working through his wife.

FDR was close to death for months and running the country during the end of the war.

Nixon was drunk and paranoid.

Kennedy was doped up on pain killers

It happens to higher office than this guy's.

I understand that. I would  also throw in Tim Johnson from South Dakota (stroke) and Sheets Byrd (severe infection).  Imagine the uproar if either of the above said an island could possibly capsize because of over-population however.

Exit question: Are you saying it's okay to have leaders that are mentally incapacitated continue to serve because it occurred in the past?

I was not making any point with that question, I was just asking that question.

It's not so much a matter of it being okay as it is a matter of not exactly that easy to remove someone that has an elected office.  To be perfectly honest, I think that if the proceedings started now to have him removed, he would be voting out in November before it came to a conclusion.  Besides, as far as I know, there is not a constitutional reason to remove him.  Other then an amendment giving a procedure for the President in the case of a mental defecit, I don't know of any other such ability to have an official stand down if they are not breaking a law.

Thanks for answering that "not a very good question". While I still think his comment was made lucidly and not from mental deficiency, especially after that follow-up statement, you have the right to your opinion. BTW, I would probably be more willing to give this guy a break, but he was one of those demanding Joe Wilson be punished for the "You Lie!" outburst. Johnson said people would put on "white hoods and ride through the countryside" if Wilson was not disciplined.

Wait a minute, maybe I should rethink this. Maybe Johnson has lost it. Naw, just typical race-baiting bs.

It could go either way, but in any case he needs to be on the way out the door at the next election, and most likely will be.  Then the question will be if the good people of Georgia will vote in a clone or if they will find someone with a better ability to use "metaphors".
