Title: Major WIN! Alert: New Lee's Bicycles Opens Downtown
Post by: Conan71 on March 19, 2010, 04:17:58 PM
I stopped in this afternoon and got to be, technically, the 2nd customer after being given the full tour.

I'm really impressed!  Adam said they closed on the property on Dec. 18 and they will have their "soft" opening at 10am tomorrow.  This is exactly the sort of thing the Blue Dome needs to help lead revitalization of retail in downtown.  Oneok Field, Eliot Nelson and Blake Ewing's new ventures along with this are creating a new vibe.

Oh, and for those who have not followed this story, it's on the SW corner of 2nd & Frankfort just west of the Safelite Glass building.  They are doing this first class and already have one retail tenant committed for an adjacent space and they have one more space available.  Adam said they aren't trying to copy Mellow Johnny's, this is uniquely Lee's.

Canopy Frame, just like hub and spokes

Sprockets enmeshed in the concrete floor

Yep, that's a disco ball!

Looking good.   Will have to take the old bikes in and let them tune them up and get em ready for my "spring biking season" lol.

Awesome!  I especially like the sprocket floor.

Conan - can I use one or two of your photos for a piece on the Examiner?  They'll be attributed to you, of course, and I'll contact you privately about that.

Wow, I had no idea they were open already.  I work just down the street and have been watching them the last few weeks rebuilding the sidewalk.  I noticed on Friday that they had bikes in the window.  I'm going to have to stop in during lunch sometime this week to check it out.

Here's a pic I grabbed a few days ago while they were painting the sign on the front.  Sorry about the crappy picture.  Took it with my cell.

We went back in on Saturday and they had the interior a little better arranged.  Adam said everyone had told him it would take six months to get open.  He had Michael Sager act more or less as his construction manager.  He said that made the process go so much smoother as Sager is used to the hurdles the city can throw up and also understands what it takes to renovate near 100 year old properties.

Like him or not, Sager can make stuff happen.

Sorry.

Or unless he's working with his own binary finances.
