This is freakin hilarious:
Countdown to Mayor Goodman being called a racist 3...2...1
....because nobody has ever used Vegas as the punchline to a joke....
I did think the Mayor was a little out of control...but that's the Las Vegas way.
There are no losers here. This didn't do anything bad to Obama nor Vegas.

Oh I get it, Obama was joking. Thanks. And RM, no losers? First, how do you know that? According to one interview in the below clip, some Vegas conventions were canceled after Obama's first slap at the city:
http://www.breitbart.tv/las-vegas-mayor-obama-is-not-our-friend/
Here's an article on the subject of canceled conventions:
http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=10383051
Second, how much do you think Obama helped Harry Reid's reelection efforts with that statement?
People cancel conventions all the time...nice to have someone else to blame.
Secondly, I hope Reid loses. I am not so partisan as to see someone of my party that is ineffective.
Your over-the-top attacks on everything done by a democrat hurts your credibilty and hurts our forum.
Lighten up, Francis.

LV is hurting badly and much beyond the housing crash, looks to me like he is taking up for his City like a good Mayor should.

Bullcrap. Everything? First, that mayor was a former democrat going after a democrat. Second, I have given Obama props on several occasions in the past year (Iraq trip and bonuses). Help me find where you offered praise to a republican this year so we can test your credibility. Third, I provided two sources that firmly placed blame for canceled conventions and you spout your personal awesomeness as fact. And you are lecturing me on credibility?

Hurtz our forum....FOTD is about to deliver some hurt.
Reid's better than the alternatives.
LV is the vice crapitol of our cuntry.
POTUS OBAMA's message is clear and succinct: get your house in order. Do the right thing. This is why our cuntry is going down the crapper. People no longer do their best. We take too much for granted. "What happens in Vegass stays in vegas " should have been condemn from the day the ad agencies delivered it. It's corrupt.
The reason there is so much distress in Vegass is because of the speculators losing control of their spending habits....oh, the irony.
"Everything" was too much...almost everything. Let's have a show of hands on how many people think you spend most of your posts on this forum bashing democrats.
I believe I have praised our new Republican Mayor often this past two months. So much in fact, that I think I am being followed by the police.
A few people changed their meeting to a different town than Vegas. A few of them may have canceled the meeting all together (must not have been needed). Nothing to see here (unless you are a partisan hack).

You know what a partisan hack thread looks like? Try these that were started by you know who:

Those threads really boosted your credibility and truly helped this forum. Bottom line, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Oh please say it isn't so.
That's how George II got elected for 8 years. (I know some of you will disagree with this but enough voting Americans thought G II was better than the alternatives to get him in office, twice.)
I have started hundreds of threads on this forum. You found three from two years ago, one of which I shared a bunch of jokes?
You win. You are the open-minded (and by definition, liberal one).

Hey, he's got a Dead poster signed by all members hanging in his bathroom and he practices Yoga.
Some of us have personal reasons that out weigh the political drawbacks.
How else do you explain Coburn and Inhofe? Bush? He wasn't the lessor of evil... they were just able to continue lying and not get caught until after the election.

It wasn't about winning anything. You took a shot at me for no damned good reason in thread that was innocent enough and I defended myself. That's all. Moving on, umbrage subsided.
agreed.
I am going to turn you into a democrat pretty soon anyway.

You must be one of the ones I said would not agree. No surprise there.
I can't see the video here at work, but I can pretty much write the script. Here's the thing with Vegas: its top industry is tourism. The second and third and fifth biggest industry is tourism. Fourth is organized crime.
Point being, of course Vegas is gonna take a hit in this economy. The kind of tourism it specializes in does excellently in boom times and terribly in recessions. It doesn't help that Vegas is the poster child for conspicuous consumption, and our economy demands the appearance of frugality.
It's not particularly constructive that Obama would single it out, but it's not gonna singlehandedly crash the Vegas hospitality industry, either. And I have to say, Reid's re-election chances don't hinge on one or two awkward attempts by the POTUS to embrace populism. He's done more than enough to make it hard on himself.
Quote``When times are tough, you tighten your belts,'' Obama said, according to a White House transcript of his appearance Tuesday at a high school in North Nashua, N.H.
``You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices.''
The statement does single out one place, but the last 2 sentences are more important than using an example to make a point, read the last 2 sentences. Las Vegas is not the only place that is hurting.

But Obama has tagged Vegas twice. Why not target Hollywood's products or New York as places not to spend money?
He used Vegas as part of a complex topic discussion.
Vegas deserves much more comment than the bland pablum Obama used. (Yeah,...the mafia is no longer present in Vegas...).
And George II was elected once. He was appointed first.
Damn the first president I voted that actually won disses one of my favorite cities. And this is right after he busted up my favorite federal agency's return to the moon party.

He could of used Tulsa or Shreveport but T-town and S'port is not that well known for its wanting to take all of your money from you like Vegas is. I don't think of Hollywood or New York when I think of gambling.

I know there are a lot of people that believe that.
All the candidates know the rules when they run. I have no problem with asking for a recount on a close vote but the 2000 vote was childish on both sides.

Obama's message was about not wasting money and making wise use of disposable income. Why bring up Vegas in that context? American's waste money in so many ways (overly expensive homes and cars, tvs, I-phones) yet he stuck it to Vegas--again.
Still, it's none of my business because I don't go to Vegas and don't live beyond my means. Again, back to my first post, I just thought the mayor's comments were funny.

I submit throwing away 5,000 plus votes makes it not that close.
Having said that, I don't have a problem with the electoral college. 1/2 million behind on popular vote is not a problem. We are a Republic, with certain Federal requirements that have worked beautifully.
The problem is as some RWRE say. Reactionary judges. The ones in the Supreme Court who are obvious by their ruling to throw away all those votes and lately to sell out (literally!) to Corporate America.
On the other hand, they were able to make the correct ruling on the latest Second Amendment topic last year.
So, I guess it all evens out.

Another one...
Remember how the Limbaugh Extremism In Broadcasting (EIB) network and friends went on and on and on about how Gore was perverting the election process by asking that the votes should actually be counted?
And then, moving to the other side with the Franken/Coleman Senate election last year were lamenting how horrible it was that Franken was dragging it out so long that it was perverting the election process - even though Franken was ahead and actually did win the election. And wanted it to be over with. It was Coleman the was doing the "dragging out".
Beyond the Magic Kook-Aid... it's Repuli-contin time!!!

How many times was it that the vote was recounted? Recount until you win? Works on both sides.
I have since forgotten numbers. I do remember the hanging chads and other machines that didn't work and then thinking that Oklahoma has one thing that actually seems to work with our ballot counting machines.
Which one? Franken was recounted a couple times with same results both times.
Gore was recounted once or twice, but the big thing there was the withholding of votes to be counted by Kathryn Harris (alledged vote counter), backed up by Jeb Bush (gov), and squelched by reactionary justices in the top Federal court.
Hanging chads are just excuses not to count a vote that was the victim of poorly designed and miserably maintained voting machines. (Can you spell "Diebold", massive contributor to the Bush campaigns...)
We are lucky - so far - until some clown sees the wide open opportunity for fraud afforded by paperless machines. THAT is the next big voting abomination!

You can put away the conspiracy theories now.
The paperless machines performed so abysmally in previous elections (machine lock-ups, lost data, etc.) that scores of election boards junked them and went back to paper voting.

Pretty clever, putting the defective machines only in the districts inclined to vote for Algore. I wonder how Diebold did that. Statistically I would have expected at least a few defective machines to end up in districts in favor of Bush in spite of their best intentions.
Traction? Not interested.

Potato chips, bet you can't eat just one.
