Could a solution to our city budget problems be a merger with the county government? It seems like it would take away a lot of "doubling up" that goes on with respect city and county government. Would the city ever look into doing this? What would it take to make this happen? Pros and cons? Louisville is a city similar in size to Tulsa that did this for efficiency back in 2003. Indianapolis and Nashville have also merged with their county govts.

The new Tulsa City/County would have close to 600,000 residents with the combined government still centered in downtown Tulsa.

There's rumors out there that the police layoffs are exactly about creating a scenario to make this finally happen. As well, one of our forum members who is on the police force seemed to be implying it with a post within the last week. I know for certain one of the County Commissioners is a big proponent of it, and it's rumored that Mayor Bartlet (sic) is for it. Keep in mind his Chief Of Staff served as an assistant over at the County Commish.
eff that idea.

Curious, why are you so against a merger?

Because I do not want to bail out the city of Tulsa from its abysmal failures. Period.
2025 a failure?
Guido, you would be against county assistance with regard to giving potential corporations looking to expand in Tulsa the perception we have a safe city? What goes on in Houston where our jobs move to?

I thought 2025 was a county project, not a city of Tulsa project. By failure, I mean things such as Great Plains.
"Keep in mind his Chief Of Staff served as an assistant over at the County Commish."
So.... "assistant" is now what they call duties performed by persons such as Monica Lewinsky sp and Terry Simonson..
Guess it's all about making facts within the "Biblebelt" politically correct.

You think Terry was knocking boots with Ms. Miller?

i thought ivan was going to be the golden hurricane that was going to bring them to tulsa, but, the powers that be left off of the opportunity.....
What I think doesn't matter.
Fact is Miller gave Simonson a ni$e job with the county, Miller had her divorce handled by Simonson. Simonson had Miller as a quasi alibi for practicing law while in the employ of the County. etc., etc.
Simonson was referred to ,by many, as Miller's "pool boy" whatever that means
One thing I am very certain of... If I were a resident of Tulsa County, rather than the City of Tulsa, the pending actions of this mayoral regime would worry me greatly.
We are looking at the possible actions of B and S from the perspective of the COT. Looking at things that could be lost or gained from the other direction makes more sen$e.

Hmmm, that would make two pool boys she's had from the local oligarchy/bureaucracy.
We miss you around here Rico, quit being a stranger.

Wait, we tried that already, or am I confusing that with moving natives around by gun-point?
