Title: Dust Bowl - Coming to the Blue Dome District
Post by: Admin on January 21, 2010, 07:02:03 AM
No renderings available.

Bowling alley built as part of the Elliott Nelson empire. Will be located in the building adjacent to Dilly Deli on the south side.

I look forward to hanging out in the alleys in downtown Tulsa.

I'm hoping they aim their pricing at more a per game as opposed to per hour. Last time I tried to bowl with friends, it was cost prohibitive if you just wanted to play a game or two because (riverlanes) was catering to league bowlers.

I was also wondering how hard it would be to have bowling where you didn't have to rent footwear from a washed up Ska band. Just adds time and money to the equation and makes it harder for lunchtime bowling.

Hmm.. lunchtime bowling leagues...

Growing up in Tulsa Bowling allies, and seeing the current state of the local houses.... I've wondered if it'd be financially viable to start up a new house while not charging out the wazoo.

Just last week went to the East Village Taven & Bowl in San Diego:

http://bowlevt.com/

Very cool concept. It is right downtown, and shows all the big games on multiple flat panel screens in the bar area. The food was great and drinks were reasonable. They are now opening one in Phoenix.

It looks like they do pricing by the hour, or per game. Its pretty reasonable too. Hopefully this one in Tulsa will incorporate the whole sports bar/tavern/gaming/ concept under one roof in a large open area. The place was packed!

BTW I love the name 'Dust Bowl'. Very cute.

My foot size usually means I get almost brand new shoes or the one pair of size 16s that they bought from big foot at a garage sale.

I am so embarrassed to have my foot size shown to the other bowlers that I bring little pieces of duct tape with me to cover the numbers.

From what I gather, its going to be a very tight fit,,, not much building left over once the lanes are in (especially front to back) so I dont think this is going to be a "large open area".

I ran across this bowling alley that I think could be a decent comparable to what ours might be like, even has that laid back hang out/loft type, of vibe that would fit right into the area.

I wonder how many lanes the Dust Bowl will have.

I suspect it's going to look like this:

http://www.saratogalanes.com/tour.php

It's a second-floor alley that's been in downtown Manchester, Mo., since the 1920s. I went there for a party and had a blast.

I assume smaller than that, definitely no room for pool tables.

Any word on how many lanes are going in?  I assume it will be impossible to get a lane for the first few months without a very, very long wait based on popularity and size.

That will change. I've never tried bowling while sober, even though that might make me a better bowler I just can't imagine that is the point of the game. bowling = beer

Another great addition to Downtown Teatown! If they can keep the degeneratards from spilling their booze all over this place then it should be a great hideaway  :-X....especially Nixon hideaway the make out room. The outdoor patio faces the ballpark so you can catch the fireworks on Frydaze when the Drillheads are in town. It's an intregal part of the Dilly Deli. Congrats Eliot.

Bring your balls.....

I was invited to a pre-party the other night.  The place is great.  Small and definitely a kitschy and niche place, but I bet it will do great.

I tasted the sweet potato tater tots drizzled in maple syrup and bacon bits.  I couldn't tell if I liked them because I was supposed to or if I actually really liked them.  They also have hot dogs, corndogs and ice cream sundaes on the menu.

I attached a picture.

Mr. Nelson was featured on MSNBC's your business Sunday morning. You can see the clip through the link below. Interesting how he integrates all his businesses. Even though the "expert comentators" seemed not to understand his motivations all that well, it was still interesting to see some of the behind the scenes of this business.

The rooftop sign for the Dust Bowl went up this week.  Looks very cool.  Sorry, no picture - I was driving home when I noticed it.

How's business down there?
Busy?
I think Mr Nelson thinks too highly of our work-ethic.
Get that place open during the day for cryin out loud!
Who wouldn't sneak out of the office to knock down a few pins and brews?

I agree on opening earlier!  My "team" needed a meeting the other day, and we thought that would be a great place.  We walked all over that area downtown trying to find a place for some beer and games for a late lunch, ended up at White Owl playing Golden Tee  . . . wish we could have stayed down here or gone upstairs at McNellie's . . . or The Max . . . nothing open during the afternoon!!!

It is insane that it is nearly impossible to find a populated bar downtown at 4:00 on a Friday, or any day of the week, actually.

We went to El Guapo's yesterday afternoon to enjoy a late lunch on the rooftop.  Waited 30 minutes for a table at 2 pm!

Joe mamma's was open.  They serve wine and beer.  Arnies was open.  The soundpony opens at three, caz's opens at 2.  The Brady Tavern was open.  The hunt Club opens at 2.  Woody's opens at 4..  While I agree that elliot needs to open the dust bowl earlier, there were other options.  As a veteral dunkard, I have radar that tells me where the nearest available drink is.

This was before 2 pm, and we weren't just looking for an alcholoic beverage, we wanted to play . . . so Brady Tavern is definitely out, Arnie's wasn't open, we looked.  It was before two so that knocks out several of your options.  Joe Momma's was an option with a couple of games.  We were taking my intern to "train" for the intern olympics (sponsored by Ellliot's group) so maybe his intern didn't want anything open!  :)

I agree there are many drink locations for early downtown, many of which I have tried, but the "play" establishments don't open until later.  I think it would be nice for them to open, even if just for Thursday and Fridays.  You also have TU students who don't have class until 5 pm everyday . . .

Orpha's Inc

Nicer reviews than I expected and I seem to remember this one is open all day...

QuoteWell not really sure, we didn't stay long enough to experience the service, or prices. However, I just wanted to save someone from an unpleaseant experiance. This bar is not elegant, or upscale. A couple pool tables, smoke, and a beer drinking crowd is what you will find at this bar. Please don't go to this club if you are looking for anything else.
I only included numbered ratings because I wasn't given a choice.

Just watch your back.
