From the Tulsa World article:
The building is a new arm of Lassman's 6-year-old business, which previously focused on Internet sales of overstocked camping supplies.
Although the faltering economy hasn't spared his company, he said he couldn't pass up an opportunity for a much larger retail presence than the small merchandise area inside his original location at 2600 W. Albany St. in Broken Arrow.

Just stopped by today to have a look around. I was surprised that I'd never seen this building before, even though it's a stone's throw from Home Depot. (The entire Gunboat neighborhood is fascinating.) From 10th and Elgin, take Elgin south until it loops back around...this "loop" forms the "gunboat" shape that gives the neighborhood its name. (Originally Elm Creek?)
Nice selection of Coleman camping equipment. If you're in the market for a tent, stove or lantern, be sure to stop by. Lots of camo outdoor gear, sleeping bags, daypacks, Coleman boots, misc camping goodies, etc.
Even if you're not shopping for camping gear, you should pop in just to admire the building. Cool terrazzo floor and tin ceilings on the ground level; oak floors on the second level; the "urban camp" with nice views on the third level. (Interesting built-in refrigerators on the third floor, too.)
Just Camp is open from 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM Mon-Fri, and 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Saturdays.
Anybody know the history of this building?

Well my goodness, dont think I have ever seen that building either. May have to stop by.
This is the way I always remembered the building:

Looks like he has made some great improvements! Interesting concept too.
Hooray! So nice to see that great old building used well. The "Better Price Warehouse" was a sh$thole, frankly. Creepy looking salvage and overstock-type worthless junk priced very poorly.
It is a neat neighborhood, although the gas station quick-y mart on the corner of Elgin has spent the last ten years looking progressively scarier.
I will have to get by there now that I am working in the downtown area.
I have got to get me one of these.

It would be perfect for camping on those hot summer nights.
Is that next to the REstore?

Nowhere close. The REstore is just SW of 11th & Sheridan.
Great fixup job on the building. New entrance, windows, etc. look good.
What I want to know is if they have those tiny tents for sale. The ones that Walmart and Target have on display but they only let you buy the large versions of.
I love those tiny tents.
It's a shame they had to crap on the facade with those WallPack lights. Im sure it does as much for the appearance of the building as it does for helping you to see at night. Even TCC's new addition looks better...

EDIT: I see from the Street View the glarebombs are leftovers from Better Price Warehouse.
Changing those out to something less prison-yard might go a long way to helping the block shed it's "crime area" look.
Is this adjacent to the lot where Bell's is storing the remnants of their amusement park?
Yes.
The Noni Juice building! Did they keep the sign?
Gunboat park is a cool little neighborhood. A shame its been industrialized with pre-engineered metal buildings - yet there is still some residential/Multi-family on Elgin and I noticed what looks like a professional building-type renovation of the 2-story old building on the same block near 11th. Neat building with a garage door on the south side
Does anyone know what's going/went in that space? Judging by the degree they gutted it, it looks like they plan on being there a while.

You two need to build model railroads together.

Further south on Elgin it was mainly duplexes (I lived in one in my youth, about from age 3 to age 6) all the way down to 15th Street. Of course the IDL takes that up now.
I went in last weekend and the store is very cool, but the urban campout was even cooler. I had heard of this concept and envisioned renting a "spot" next to an "urban outdoorsman" and thought "why?". Apparently it is an all or nothing rental, mostly for parties for kids/scout groups/etc. They had a ton of tents already set up and most of the bigger ones had air mattresses. Lots of toys/fun stuff for kids to do in the ~9000 SF open space and it did have a "camp" feel to it with a portion of it with fake grass turf. I plan to book it sometime in the future for one of my kids...if not for the overnight, at least for a Saturday afternoon party (either option is available). He said they were booked out a few months, and the rental was pretty reasonable (compared to other off-site party places). $295 for overnight and $195 for 3 hours during the day. Doubt that includes any food/party favors, but did not ask.
I had been in this building before it was remodeled...the windows help a LOT. I was told by the Better Price people that it used to be Mayo Furniture store and the first 2 floors were the showroom, the 3rd floor was storage/warehouse and the 4th floor was added on later for additional storage/warehouse. There is a real neat circular slide from the 3rd floor down to the first (for merchandise, not for kids) and there is a cool cargo elevator that goes to the fourth floor. I think they turned the fourth floor into a photo studio for one of the owner's friends. It looked pretty awesome as well.
Highly recommend people to check this place out.
They need to punch some doors or windows into the blank street level facade or at the least, a cheaper alternative would be some kind of art along there to spruce it up. Wall painting, a mural, graffiti, specials, anything to make it more interesting and inviting..maybe not graffiti though, if the area has a crime reputation.
