I found this on Google streets, and I know I haven't been back for a few years but what is this?

It appears to be a spotlight of some kind, but what is it for? It seems to be aimed to high for the Williams Tower.
Tis indeed a spotlight. They put in several of them on the north side of downtown to add some "sense of place, splash and lively fun" and to act as a draw for the areas nightlife offerings. Havent seen them on in a long time.
They are supposed to be on for big events to add some sort of random glow to downtown. I talked to a woman at CoT back when they were installed who was excited about having just put them in but I didn't get it even when she explained it.
Thanks guys, I kind of thought that but wasn't sure. Sounds like they are just as popular as the giant rust cloud by the old union depot.

The lighting industry calls them "Light Cannons" and these particular ones represent both Tulsa's lame attempt at imitating the World Trade Center's memorial as well as some really bad spending trends that we would have to answer for later.
From the newsletter of the now-defunct Downtown Tulsa Unlimited:
"...several additional night spots are set to open up in Brady in the coming months. In addition, soon the identity lighting will be complete which will in effect have four giant spotlights at the four corners of the Brady District which will meet at a single point to form a "light pyramid". This will identify the District and will primarily be lit on weekends and when activities are underway at the Brady Theater or other locales in the District."
...as if the light knows here to stop in the sky to form a "pyramid".
The funding appears to have come from the "Brady Village Property Owners" who also spearheaded the proliferation of energy-wasting "Acorn" streetlights with Jim Norton and his utility partners.
The taxpayers have since absorbed the maintenance and electric bills of these follies with the demise of DTU, so flaunting those expenses now might not be considered good leadership at this point.
And they havent been vandalized yet ?
Also, how long have they been there ?

The 'sculpture' is neat, thanks.
Jeff Olsen / Omni Lighting
They look great at night when downtown is lit.

I didn't mean to offened if I did. I was just refering to what alot of people thought about it back in the '90s when it was installed. It was back when Mayfest was moved to that part of downtown, and didnot go over very well. Also at that time there where not the restaraunts and bars and clubs that there are now.
Actually, it's how we signal for Batman.
