Tulsa mayoral candidate proposes police assistance program

Mayoral candidate Anna Falling on Thursday proposed a "Protect the Police Initiative," which includes churches, civic groups and businesses "adopting" officers to help pay their out-of-pocket work expenses. Officers have to pay about $1,000 annually in uniform and equipment costs, said the Republican candidate.

Through the same Adopt-A-Cop program, churches should actively pray for the officers' safety, Falling said. "They put themselves in harm's way for us every day," she said. Falling is one of 11 candidates battling for the GOP nomination in the Sept. 8 primary election, with the top-vote-getter advancing to the Nov. 10 general election.

Falling, a former city councilor who has co-founded numerous Christian non-profits, has focused her campaign on inviting churches to be more involved in city government.

I just love the Tulsa World comments...

I think this officer may be wanting to adopt a new partner...

One of my favorites so far:

"If I adopt OHP trooper Daniel Martin, can I choke him anytime I want?"

Do you get a certificate and wallet sized picture of your officer?

Do I get a sticker for my car to show that I bribed sponsored a cop?

Also: Anyone want to adopt a lawyer?  I make less than many cops do and have to spend money on suits and other require items.  Please, think of the children.

You'd have to be criminal to adopt a lawyer....

Do you carry a gun?

"For only a dollar a day, less than a cup of coffee, you too can make a difference in the life of a cop"

I was under the impression that the general public thought they had already adopted all attorneys.

Since Tulsa police officers already get a uniform allowance above their salaries, I'll pass.
