Changed title of thread to reflect the new business in the space.
First I've heard of it. Cherry Street is out two key properties in short order. :(
Bourbon Street has been pretty bad ever since they started the Jazmo's crap.
it gave me the impression that it was dead with that 'immediate seating available' sign lit every time i drove by.
How did it survive as long as it did?
Take heart though, you can always buy a franchise!

That's a very cool restaurant space, I doubt it stays vacant for long..
Bring back Cardo's Cadillac ...or better, the Fifteenth Street Grill...Lucky's should open up a second type eatery there.....
Is there a decent South Tulsa restaurant looking for a better location?

Sounds like an awesome spot if you don't like being open :D

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Oh sorry, was that out loud?

Bourbon Street was not so good way before they started the Jazmo's crap, really.
Makes me miss S&J's and Da' Boat.
We really need a good Cajun restaurant. That thing in Broken Arrow by Ted's certainly doesn't cut it and Bourbon Street hadn't for years. Does anyone know of a place? I wish Hebert's would do a full blown restaurant.
Chicory & Chives on Charles Page Blve. makes some pretty killer gumbo and etouffes.

Hey, you should pick up some steaks from there if you haven't tried them, best in Tulsa, by far.

My favorite dish from Herberts' is the stuffed chicken. For $14 you get a perfectly prepared bird stuffed with a choice of six or seven addings. My wife loves the chicken stuffed with rice and broccoli. Pop in the oven for 75 minutes and act like a gourmet.

I never have, they looked spectacular though. Reminds me, I need to get by Harvard Meats for some hanging tenderloins.

I think that restaurant would do well in a nicer place. The food is good. They sometimes have spicy cucumbers that are really good, too.
sad about it closing but food really hasn't been that great for more than a few years...miss the old Louisianne downtown in the day, their cajun was really good and gator tail was to die for -- it died a horrible death what it moved south and son pissed the business away
New sign out front.
"Smoke Woodfire Grill"
I hope it goes well.
There's still a Jazmoz in OKC Bricktown. We ate there a few weeks ago, it was alright but I'm not really sure why it's still open.

Bourbon Street really wasn't ever the same after they closed the south store and started that Jazmoz thing. The food went way downhill.
I really still miss S&J's Oyster House.
I found a blog that discusses this new restaurant: http://vickidees.blogspot.com/2010/11/smoke-on-cherry-street.html (http://vickidees.blogspot.com/2010/11/smoke-on-cherry-street.html)
Soon there will be wood fire grilled steaks, seafood and urban smoked bbq meats...
If it's anything like OKC's Iron Starr Urban BBQ it will be a big hit. Looking forward to trying it and Andolini's Pizza opening in a few months just to the east at Trenton.
WTH is "urban BBQ"?
The building is now sporting a large Marshall's beer sign painted on the side facing Lucky's.
I'll try any new BBQ joint! The main problem with BBQ is quality control, if they can conquer that, the rest is easy. I think Tulsa could use an upscale BBQ, but it's been tried before with less than happy results.
I'd love to see a menu if anyone can get their hands on one.

Upscale BBQ is an oxymoron.
Give me a dump that serves it on wax paper any ol' day.

That may be the problem that other models have had. People associate BBQ with __________.
It's kinda like a white-tablecloth, reservation only hot dog joint. Out of character.
El Paso BBQ tried an upscale option, and the food was not bad (though not an Oklahoman's version of BBQ). The atmosphere was very nice, but the menu was expensive. People would rather go spend half as much at the Knotty Pine for a superior product.
So I guess that begs the question, why would one want to take a casual comfort food and attempt to put a dress on it. Anytime you need to add a qualifier to your description ('urban' bbq) you are starting out at a disadvantage anyway.
Another disadvantage they may be starting with, is that BBQ is a regional 'pride food', meaning that if you venture from Texas to Oklahoma, to Kansas City, to Memphis, to South Carolina you will find that people take pride in local BBQ traditions. If your buddy from New York, or your client from Michigan comes to town and you get on the subject of BBQ or plan an evening out, you are going to take him to an 'Oklahoma' BBQ joint.
Now we may be making some wild assumptions, but I can tell you that no matter what you want to call it, if you call it BBQ it's going to be judged accordingly. Unless the chef is a pro, it's dangerous to even invoke the name BBQ, lest ye be judged by BBQ alone! If this place will have a diverse menu, it would be better for them to keep the term 'BBQ' in the fine print.
Just my opinion. I may be completely wrong, but I'm not! ;)
Best place in Phoenix

"Urban BBQ" implies trendy unless they mean "urban" as a euphemism for black, in which case, it will probably rock. Trendy doesn't fly with true BBQ afficionados.

Thank you, very well said.
Urban BBQ is when the smoke wood comes from back alleys and dumpsters. ;D
Man, are you guys cranky. "Urban" is a code word for "pitched towards the younger, monied set." You know, the kids who wear fedoras and sweater vests, or the legging chicks with seventies afghan sweaters and white wayfarers. Hipsters, yo. If you're a downscale or no-scale BBQ afficionado (like, eating from a pit in someone's backyard), this will, I guarantee, NOT appeal to you.

Or, in still other words, kids who are afraid to have real BBQ in North Tulsa, Oak Cliff, anywhere near Prospect in KC or South OKC. They need to realize yuppie white folk are great entertainment in the black BBQ joints.

I'm more excited about the Back Alley BBQ and Blues going in downtown. Sounds like they will be trying for a Memphis vibe. I hope they do it right and that it makes it.
Also, has anyone heard about the Treehouse Barbeque joint going in on 18th and Boston? Seems like they did a lot of renovation, which seems odd since Oscars had just done a significant amount of renovating themselves. I'm interested to see what their niche is.
So, Tree House on 18th & Boston, Smoke on Cherry St., Back Alley BBQ in the Blue Dome, and Oklahoma Joe's in the Brady Dist. While each appears to be aiming for a different bbq niche, four opening in a year is a lot of bbq for midtown/downtown to absorb. Even if they are all great, it is hard to see how all four can make it. I would not be surprised to see some of these that not yet too far along to hold off to see how the others do before giving it a go.

Actually I'm baking some Lone Star beer bread right now. ;) I've always thought of that one as being a bit yeasty, it's unreal the rise it's got in the oven.
They have a new neon sign out front that looks pretty cool driving on 15th at night. Not much (or any) neon along 15th so it stands out. And the Marshall's painted sign is awesome. I'll see if I can get a few pics.
A friend attended a pre-opening party at Smoke last night. Said it was great, had a quail appetizer and a steak for dinner, and of course Marshall's beer. Doesn't sound like a bbq joint like you all have been thinking . . . looking forward to trying it out soon.
and it opens today!
I took a picture of the neon sign with my phone last night, but it came out fuzzy and you can't really tell what it is. I'll try again tonight. I live just down the street.
The sign is really cool and is a great addition to the neighborhood. Has a feel to it like Beale Street in Memphis or Sixth Street in Austin. Would be nice to see more go up.

Agree. Love seeing new neon signs around town. And as someone who lives in the neighborhood it's great to see Cherry Street doing so well. Now I just wonder what will go in the old Camille's spot. They have a great indoor/outdoor patio that was never used to its potential. Hopefully the next incarnation in that spot realizes that...
I'll have to try this place soon.

I was worried another Beautiful Brands concept like Rex Chicken or Coney Beach would go in there. Mi Cocina would be great, I love their location in Uptown Dallas. They would likely make good use of their patio, most Mexican restaurants do. There really is no need for the curb cut parking lane outside the old Camille's because there is already street parking in the outside lane on 15th. That would make the patio even larger. Cafe Cubana would also benefit from having more outdoor table space. See below.
Speaking of patios, it doesn't look like Smoke will have one nor could they because of the narrow sidewalk outside and the alley/parking area next to them. The only way would be to give up the parking area and disconnect it from the rest of the building like Full Moon did.

If this is true, it will instantly raise the bar for Tex Mex in Tulsa. Their food is the real deal.

Cool, someone else is onto hanging tenderloin. They had it at Oscar's Gastropub, only other place in Tulsa I've seen put it on a menu. You can get it at Harvard Meats, great cut.

Having lived in Dallas for three years recently, I can attest to this. I generally prefer authentic to Tex-Mex, but Mi Cocina is excellent food and great atmosphere. I would be very excited if this were true. It would put Chimi's to shame.
