There are three council races with a rematch looming from the 2006 general election.
Last time, Independent David Patrick beat Democrat Roscoe Turner with 1,074 votes (55%) to 892 votes (45%).
Last time, Republican Eric Gomez beat Democrat Maria Barnes with 1,484 votes (53%) to 1,322 votes (47%).
Last time, Democrat Dennis Troyer beat Republican Kevin Boggs with 727 votes (53%) to 652 votes (47%).
There are other candidates in the primary so a rematch is not a certainty. None of the incumbents look unbeatable with only 425 votes separating them total in all three races. Will any of them lose this time? If so, to whom?
Kevin Boggs is running for Mayor, not City Council. So that's not really a rematch. Given the slew of republican mayoral candidates, I suspect he won't get much more than the 652 votes he got before.
I think you meant Mautino, which will be a rematch with Troyer, in the election before last.
Gomez's win over Barnes and Patrick's win over Turner were both in 2008. In 2006, Mautino beat Teresa Buchert in the primary, then lost a close race to Troyer. Boggs ran against Troyer in 2008.
Turner's problem in 2008 was low turnout in his key precincts. With a mayor's race that shouldn't be a problem this time.
Thanks for the corrections...I often get confused...My reason for starting the thread was to discuss these three council races...I think they are all interesting.
The Turner/Patrick one has been repeated often. They have faced each other more than a half dozen times with each winning when the other was an incumbent. Last time, Patrick filed as an independent which allowed him to get the few republicans in the district involved in the voting.
The Gomez/Barnes race was interesting as well. Last time, neighborhood preservation measures seemed to dominate the race. I wonder what the main issues will be for the voters this time.
Troyer/Mautino seems to be the most heated. My friends in that district already have strong opinions and really dislike the other party's candidate.
The REAL race? Grizzle v. Christiansen! Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Grizzle! Beat 'em in da belly. Kick 'em in da smelly!
I met both Mautino and Turner a couple of years at a candidates forum a couple of years ago, and it bothered me that both were the epitome of easily confused old men. That didn't give me much confidence.
They are both 73 with Turner being three months older than Mautino. I don't think that 73 is too old as an age to serve in general. Some people just stay sharp. My mother is 72 and she could easily beat you in Scrabble.
I do think that sometimes men at that age become very emotional. They just get more upset and even cry at things that are small potatoes.

Turner, according to his own bio, was born in February 1932. That mean's he's going to be pushing 80 pretty quick.
I didn't say age itself was a concern. But age along with mental confusion *is* a concern.

I am not disagreeing that mental confusion is scary in an elected official. Our last President is proof positive.
hopefully by the next time around I'll be in a position to run for 6. I really wanted to this time, but have my reasons for not doing so.

I live in east Tulsa. We should rule.
Well, how old is too old? How young is too young? Isn't it more about what you bring to the table regarding experience, expertise, and insight? And yes, I do think some races will be quite interesting!
