Health care has been broken in this country since shortly after the government started messing with it in the late 1960's. Consensus is that it has declined since then - at least as far as simplicity, cost effectiveness, and availability is concerned. Hell, for that matter the quality has dropped off when compared to the rest of the world also (life expectancy, infant mortality, error rate).
So lets just say it has been messed up for 30 years. Certainly 20. For damn sure since Hillary Care ~15 years ago. So lets say 15 years.
If it has been broken for 15 years, why do we need to fix it NOW NOW NOW! Why can't we take the time to read the bill, understand it, and try to do things right? What is the super rush?

I know your stats on U.S. vs. the World on health care, and I am certainly not going to contest them. From a purely personal perspective (and you know what I am talking about), i believe there is nothing fundamentally wrong with our system, in particular one Tulsa hospital during 50% of each month's night shifts. There is a 100% chance that if you are hurt you will get the best care possible, regardless if you can afford it.
Unfortunately, right now, the purpose of health care "reform" has not been stated in terms of improving care. It's either about getting people insured, cutting costs, creating competition, etc. with a smattering of "let's try to live healthier" and you might get to keep your own doctor. How is any of that going to decrease infant mortality or extend life expectancy, unless those issues are a re sult of only the hardcore uninsured. Are there any stats on that?
