Now that John Sullivan has been given an absolute pass for abandoning his position in Congress, and has been given seemingly unlimited free publicity in our local media, I think it is time to ask the question: does any man who wears checkered pants in a family photo really think he is in his right mind? Look for yourself, Tulsan: http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?subjectid=11&articleid=20090705_16_A1_USRepJ797353&archive=yes. There he is all tanned up after spending how many hundreds of thousands of dollars, proud as a peacock, absolutely clueless. Thank you, Tulsa World, for bringing us the truth about our colleague (though we are sure you did not mean to!)
We need a fighter, a tireless advocate, a relentless pit bull to advance our common sense values. Instead we get a dude who wants us to applaud his decision to - in the midst of the most intense political battle in our nation's history - drop his sword, reveal his arse to the enemy, and take a thirty-day dive in the exclusive confines of the Betty Ford Clinic. Because no where in Tulsa could have helped him (but what a tan!)
I will clap . . . clap . . . clap . . . his decision to dry up and white knuckle it. I will be seriously impressed when all his suck-up enablers and clinger-ons and yessirs get help for their co-dependence. But they will not, they will ride that poor sucker until their next tool comes along.
John Sullivan wears checkered pants. A fitting symbol for the Republicrats.

I guess I'm just not as incensed as you are about him personally. Private industry makes allowance for this illness. He is making an effort and, he's not out of the woods after a short stint in a rehab. I don't like his politics and his tenure has been unproductive from what i can tell.
The pic show's a totally out of date family guy. I can identify with that. They look like typical Tulsan's don't they?
What incenses me is that he has such great health care plan that few in the general population can get. His constituents most likely end up rather badly with the same illness. I hope he recognizes that.

No way does he realize that his party is a major sponsor of "that's socialism" rhetoric.
He should have to pay for Betty Ford out of his own funds.
Checkered Past yields Checkered Pants.
I too am upset by his choice of pants and believe the cornerstone of a good family is a dad with single-color pants.

I didn't know voters were such fashionistas.
KN, nice flowery prose 'n all you got there but you don't seem to realize you are doing the same thing that pisses you off when others aren't sensitive about mental illness. FWIW, Sullivan suffers from an obsessive disorder, something you seem familiar with. Cut the good Congressman some slack if it bothers you when others on this forum lampoon people who suffer from mental illness. The plaid slacks? Okay, pretty tacky.
Oh, and according to the BFC website, it's only $26K for a 30-day inpatient spin-dry, not hundreds of thousands of dollars as you indicated.

Did you count the VIP package with private suites and minibar?

I'm still a little miffed at my friend who didn't want to go. It wound up working out though Maybe next time. ;D
And C, I hadn't fired up my grill in over a year and had a nice surprise waiting for me when I was prepping it on Saturday. A mud-dauber nest had been built one of the burner rails.
I wonder why John Sullivan chose to go to Hollywood Rehab. I wonder if he got any autographs while he was there.

Don't forget the other excursions like, Play Rock Band with whatever band is in rehab that month. Or re-enact famous movie scenes with the real actors.
And then there are celebs who have supposedly come to Laureatte for "privacy" from their Cali homes.
At least the guy had the onions to own up to his problem. If he had the means to pay for BFC, then BFD.

I know.. I was just mocking the general Republican hatred of those "Hollywood" types. How awful actors are, etc etc. I mean.. This is the guy that tried to say Georgianna wasn't an Oklahoman.

Just about every politician in DC is an actor, so yes, perfect place for rehab for one of them.
Looks kinda checkered, but I would refer to that more as plaid pajamas.. And perhaps that was the intent of the photo, a candid moment with his family in his PJs.
My main problem with Sully was his flip flop on the bailout (TARP). He voted against it in round 1, then voted for it when it passed. What the eff? Do any of you effite liberal losers think that was a mistake?

Sorry I did not know that Sullivan had Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. That is a disabling, hellish condition that really I would not wish on anyone. It is amazing that he has climbed to such heights with that mental illness. Saying he is not in his right mind is a far cry from using bigoted hate speech that mocks people with mental illness, and then doing it again and again and again and again as Townsend did, without apology.
I am very surprised that he did not go to Laureate, which has a fantastic dual diagnosis program. Inasmuch as the relapse rate for addiction programs is rather high, adding in the cost to treat his disabling Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, his costs will certainly exceed hundreds of thousands dollars. Just not this first stint.
The joke is that he is a RINO. And the refrain for phoney baloney conservatives who cash in on the values of their voters is that they are Country Club, Checked Pants Conservatives. Like Mayor Taylor is a Limousine Liberal. Same thing. He said he is one of 'us' well now we know the true face of Tulsan Republicans
currently in power: elitist snobs. They wear checked pants and have to go to the finest treatment centers to sober up. They abandon their posts during the pitch of battle. They have no will power to say no. They cover up for each other. RINOs. Checkered Pants Conservatives.
That was actually making fun of you. Ambisexual walnut.
Thanks for trying though.

We can keep going round and round, but you used language that in the vernacular is an insult. Numerous times even after I asked you to stop. Even if you were not using stigmatizing, ignorant language, the fact that you tried to hurt someone you believe is mentally ill by using discriminating insults is pretty bad. Fact is I do have a mental illness and take medication for it. Lots of people do and have family members and friends that do. What you said was very hurtful and has caused me pain. Happy now? I am not. I am very hurt and distressed by your vicious personal attacks and would ask respectfully that you refrain from any more interaction with me until you are ready to be a big person and apologize.
But this is not about me, this is about taking responsibility. I thank him for his support of mental health parity legislation, and wish him and his beautiful family the best. I applaud Sullivan's openness about his mental illness and alcoholism, and will not talk further about it. If I needed hospitalization I would elect to stay in town near family and friends.
My attempt to call attention to how out-of-touch he is with normal Tulsans by saying he is not in his 'right' mind was an attempt to distance him from the 'right.' He is wrong on many, many, fronts, not the least of which is his checkered pants.

Then don't mention me in any more of your posts and don't post anything attacking or taking a position on any subject in which I hold interest.
I accept that you are ill but that doesn't preclude you from being put in your place when you say something asinine.
Keep that in mind when you are typing and maybe you'll have a better day.

Using hate speech and slurs is not being artful, it is being ignorant. I think it is important for readers to understand that you will use hate speech. Your discriminatory and bigoted remarks were germane because Conan wanted to score a point by insinuating that I was using a similar tone as you when I started this thread. I am not going to let you get away with using hate speech toward me and will not hesitate to remind readers of your bigotry because you are unapologetic. Big deal. Woo-hoo. Why does it matter if I am relaying the truth about you?
This is all about opinions and ideas, and you want to use hateful, bigoted, discriminatory speech ad nauseum and then complain when your victim objects.
I feel sorry for Sullivan. His 'base' as it were is not much more enlightened than you are.

Anyway, I didn't think his pants were that bad.
I don't think I'd have a family pic taken in them as a political figure but they're not that bad.

I do not hold that view at all. I think there is going to be a lot more activity and interest. Once we can all work around the name-calling and intrusions, the stupid shadow-boxing and CYA, the importance of Tulsa's #1 forum should be able to advance ideas, issues, and policies in a new and different way.
Sorry I did not help out more in some of those battles on City issues. You tried and tried to get things going but I do not remember, did you get shouted down or do you feel you brought important issues to light?

Would be better if W would belly up and stick with it. 1200 posts to realize that this forum is a waste of time? Is he/she new to town? This whole town is a cesspool of petty in-fighting and name-calling, bitterly divided and split into sects and cliques, so I see the forum as perfectly normal.
And, no, I will not grow up or accept hate speech and bigotry as acceptable. If I am the only one who objects to an officer of the law calling a US Senator a 'b*tch' then so be it. If I am the only one who gets that it is not funny to joke about homosexuals being executed in Iran ('well hung,' eh [REDACTED]?), or understands the relationship between using people with Down's as punch lines and the fact that 90% of babies with Down's are executed, well, then, I am indeed alone.
Maybe if society stopped encouraging stigmatizing language in regards to mental health issues more people would get help earlier, and Sullivan's condition would not have deteriorated to the point where he needed to be hospitalized. Not sure why that is hard to get.

Fair question Mr. Believe-Iranian-Murderous-Terrorists-over-Sworn-Defenders-of-the-Constitution.
Well inasmuch that many of the opinionators here feel they are living in a dumpy backwater of cultural and intellectual louts, calling it a cesspool is not that bad! What percentage of a cesspool has to be feces or urine or other waste to be classified as a cesspool? I surmise that about 20% would be enough contamination to qualify a body of water as a cesspool. Just an opinion. It just so happens that 20% tends to float to the top and stay there.
I will venture that about 80% of Sullivan's staff are members of that 20%.
