Okay, since the passing of Beryl Ford I've been playing with an idea that I would like to get some feedback on. I've been printing out copies of photo's from his collection and as I have time I track down where they were originally taken and try to get the same angle, or as close to it as possible, from now. I've put a few of them together with the old and just want to get some thoughts on the idea.

I like this. Well done.
That's pretty cool. Thanks for taking the time to do this. We want more!
In the first set of photos, the 'today' picture looks like 1st & Elgin, not 3rd & Elgin.
Lovely idea. Would make a great coffee table book.

Your so right. I had taken a lot of photos that day on third street and got this one mislabled. Thanks for the catch.
I saw a series of images done like this, only not as clumsy:

I did this fast and dirty in Photoshop - another tool I'm still learning to use - but I've seen similar images that combined the old and the new.
One other thing - since I don't know the copyright status of the images, I'll remove this one from Flickr in a day or two. I just posted it as an illustration of what I've seen elsewhere, but I cannot remember where I saw the other photos!
My brother has a book on Houston that is "then and now", and I saw a website of similar photos for Atlanta "then and now". I always find it fascinating to see how things have "improved". Cool idea!
Here is a link to that Atlanta website...

Very nicely done. I think I liked the city the way it was in 1950 =)
Those were just quick throw togethers. I'm thinking of doing up a website that changes the photos when you mouseover them. Just tossing around some idea's in my head here.
Here's an idea from the liveable streets folks:

That before and after tab with notes appended to the 'after' version could be used to call out various details in both photos.

Could be interesting to make historical notes. We'll see if I get that far first lol. Like I said, just something I"m playing with. Too bad anything over 100 years is completely covered by either the main street bridge and parking garage, or williams center. Still trying to figure out how to do those photos.
The 3rd and Main pics are whack....out of sync....so it appears to one who use to hang at the Zales store...
Great job and a wonderful idea.
Please number one. Make it so !
+1 admirer

did not notice this part of your comment. The now photo is mine, and I'm not so worried about the copyright on it. The then is from the Beryl Ford collection. Their only stipulation is that you give credit to the collection.
I removed the photo from my Flickr photostream this afternoon.
