i went to work yesterday and walked into a bad stink..i thought it might be some bad fruit or garbage in the trash bin. last night at home i was washing dishes and smelled it again, then when i was showering i found the very distinctive smell was coming from my Tulsa city water supply.
anyone else noticed this smell in the last 24-36 hours?

No, I didn't. But I did hear that bad smells like that can indicate a brain tumor.
I smelled my water in east Tulsa and in downtown and didn't notice a smell. What part of town you live in?
micheal..i have a little bar downtown, and i live in lortondale ( 26th and yale) id have written it off to my imagination but i had an empolyee smell the water also, she verified the same smell i was getting.
or we both have the same brain tumors?

I drew tap water at both my houses last night and didn't smell anything weird. I think you both got the same tumor.
Water at home this morning near DT and no smell, drinking some now near Lake Yahola at the Cherokee BP and it smells fine.
Have you thought about having your sewer lines checked, are they leeching into your potable water supply in some way? I have not noticed anything off kilter at home or at work.
I did not notice anything this morning when I took the second shower of the AM (my wife was first, thus indicating that we used plenty of water to ensure we cleared the lines and would get any new smell). I just checked here at the office and notice nothing. Not even a chlorine smell that we often get in the early summer.
Both locations are in midtown.
The Tulsa City/County Health department can test water for you.
http://www.tulsa-health.org/environmental-health/bacterial-water-testing/
There is a slight fee based on what you want it tested for.
WATER SNIFFERS!
Just drink it, and listen closely to everything I say.
Soon you will be happy, calm and uh, more. . . helpful.
;)

I live just about 10 houses east of you on 26 Street and have not noticed any problems with my City water, taste or odor. In fact, I have not had any taste or odor problems with my water in about 5 years.

Probably tumors.
Neither Mapco Plaza nor my house 15 & Lewis area have any smelly water. Sorry.
well,,, im stumped.
does the health department do brain cancer screening?
Tulsa has a pretty good handle on most of the smell issues in water. The chicken waste issues caused Tulsa to spend considerable amounts of money to help correct the problem. The chicken waste wasn't so much unhealthy as it was untasty. I called it "Chicken Poop for the Soul".
I once was a judge in a regional water tasting conference. They served us chilled water samples from 36 area water treatment plants from four states. Each sample was delivered to me in an unmarked martini glass and I had to rate them on five categories.
Tulsa's Mohawk water treatment plant finished number one.

Maybe the problems are related to your house topography and all the heavy rains we have had lately. I know the houses across the street from me on 26th St. often have backup problems during prolonged periods of heavy rain. The storm water and sanitary sewer water mingles, causing some nasty problems. I know the area down by your house heavily flooded during the infamous 1984 Memorial Day flood. Fortunately for me at 4962, I have never had any backup or sewage problems.
Check all the storm drains on 26 Terrace down there by your house. Are they all clogged with debris? I reported all these clogged drains to the City about 2 years ago, and they came out within 2 days and cleared them out. They may need to be cleaned again.
That smell wasn't a smell like burning rope or burning lima beans was it? ;D
There was no sign in the demons neti pot of Guido.....
was talking to my mom yesterday and sh started complaining about the water smelling funny yesterday. I couldn't tell the differance personally. We both live in East Tulsa.
I wonder if the vessel you are using is adding a scent or flavor? Plastics sometimes trap smells and release them back into water, styrofoam can make water taste as if you are drinking from a garden hose (as can drinking from a garden hose). Maybe your dishwasher is not rinsing completely?

I understand that bongs will add a certain taste or flavor to water as well, that's what I'm told anyhow.

Water filtered through a bong does become pot able.

setting up the pool for the summer and did a base test on the tap water, and seems that there are no chemicals at all (at least non that show up with pool test kits) and is very hard. Maybe the city is saving money by just piping us water without treating it.

No chlorine or fluoride?
doesn't test for floride, but no, no cholrine.

It seems highly unlikely that such is the case. It is more likely that the chlorine levels are so low that you are simply not able to detect them with your pool kit. Tulsa's water averaged 1.8 ppm of chlorine in drinking water but a minimum level of .25 ppm might make it past your detection. And even if NO chlorine is present, it doesn't mean it wasn't added (it dissipates of course) and there are numerous other steps in the treatment processes.

I've considered the possibility of not enough to be detected. However, if the amounts are decreased to that point, it may account for the "dirty" smell of the water. The pool water has the "clean" smell now lol.

Zach,
Do you have a sprinkler system or any underground irrigation? Your back-flow preventer may have not prevented ;)
Same thing can happen with old underground (non-irrigation) piping as the ground gets saturated.
Any problems since The Rains stopped?
MG
NO idea what that was all about, i had asked one girl who works for me and she concurred, but thats what good employees are supposed to do right?
the smell/taste is either gone, never existed or im used to it....
yeah, im sure it was just me too.
thanks guys

Because it doesn't make it that far North...it's in Oklahoma while you are not.
You and Nothing are missing your morning pills.
I just got back from Houston and I am proud to report that our water is much tastier than theirs.
Our water has been coming out smelling pretty horrific here lately. Some classmates had recently made comments about their water smelling bad as well. Anyone else noticing anything?

Ah yes, I remember that nasty, briny taste of the water of Lake Houston. I sure don't miss that. I typically bought bottled water there (to drink, anyway)

Put down the gin.
The City of Tulsa is making some major repairs to a water line at the Mohawk water treatment plant today. It is probably the cause of your funny water.

Wish they would hurry. At first I thought it was something in the drain lines, until I realized it the smell was hitting as soon as the water was turned on.
