Hey all -
Want to clean up the trash you see around midtown? Join us this weekend to help pick up. My friend David Horne is organizing this and as if right now we are just going to meet on Saturday at Noon and Sunday at 2PM. Glove and bag will be provided, all that is required is an eagerness to clean up the city a little bit.
If interested call David at 918-917-5939
If I can't make it to the official event, I'll start my own in my neighborhood. We always try to bring a backpack lined with a trash bag when we go for walks around the city or hikes in woods. MOST people don't throw trash on our streets (cigarette butts count as trash, FYI), but most people don't bother picking any up either.
Idea:
For community service hours assigned "hours" required to clean up an area. 4 hours to clean up Peoria from 31st to 41st. If you get it done to par in 3 hours, you get credited for 4 just the same. Whatever the numbers are - encourage community service hours to be productive. If someone wants to get their punishment over quicker, why should I care? As it stands they do almost no good at all . . .
Hooray for promoting litter cleanups. I wish I could participate, but am busy collecting hazardous waste at the fairgrounds that day.
I will give free bags and gloves to any group that wants to pick up litter any day of the year.
We could use free bags and gloves!
