Title: Auto bailout redux

Yes, I know this is deadly serious stuff, but I can't help but find something desperately funny about this line:

"...Mr. Obama said Chrysler has been instructed to form a partnership with the Italian automaker Fiat within 30 days as conditions for receiving another much-needed round of government aid."

Maybe I'm too easily attracted to gallows humor, but this really seems like it ties one millstone to another one.

Elucidate. Fiat is a respectable car that is widely well regarded outside of the states. They use them for stunts in movies and as cabs because they are inexpensive, reliable and durable. Fiat also has the backing of the French government if I remember right. To be honest, I owned a Fiat 124 Spyder and dearly loved the underperforming little b**stard. Its top worked well.

Though it would be thoroughly humiliating for GM. and Chrysler..don't they deserve it?
