Title: Juggalos
Post by: sgrizzle on February 13, 2009, 11:03:49 AM
Fans of the group "Insane Clown Posse" refer to themselves as "Juggalos" and "Juggalettes" and I've noticed more and more of them in Tulsa, especially amongst lower income caucasians (personal observation, not a real statistic) while at the same time they are getting a growing reputation of being a gang and there was even an incident where individuals protested against the "Juggalos" the last time ICP played a concert in Tulsa.

My question is, has anyone else noticed this phenomena and/or have any opinions on the group.

a couple of my friends listened to ICP about 10 years ago.  It was terrible then, I can't see how its improved since.  Even at the height of nu-metal (fred durst, korn, etc) they , even then stood out as garbage.

Here's your test to see if you have a predisposition to liking ICP.

Are you white?
Are you male?
Have you ever lived in a trailer?
Do you drive a 1991 Grand-Am?
Do you have a GED?
Did you drop out of high school?

I've read up on this stuff.  Totally weird.  Tulsa has some really great people and then some others that seem unusually prone to joining cults, even if for the sake of weird commercialism.  Agree, ICP is awful.

My take: goofy, but harmless.

I happened to be in St. Louis about 10 years ago when the group did a free in-store appearance at a big record store in University City. About 1,000 people showed up. Never saw so many goofs in makeup since a Cure concert.

ICP's music was no worse than Limp Bizkit's (which is damning with faint praise, I realize).

I'm suppose, like anything else, a cult phenomenon can get bastardized into something  more ominous. But Juggalo gangs aren't something I lay awake at night thinking about. In fact, it's something I hadn't thought about in years until this was brought up.

After living near St. Louis, Chicago and other Rust Belt cities for years, I guess other gangs elsewhere seem tame in comparison.

I thought this was going to be about a Hooter's competitor.

I am glad to know that I fit into the 55% that do not listen nor do we really care about this group.
