This is something I am actually in total agreement of.  Never should have gone to trial.

Amen to that. Even so, I'd like to see their convictions overturned, and their prosecutor disbarred.

Why should the convictions be overturned. Do you even know the facts of the case?

They shot an unarmed person. I dont care if it is a drug dealer, illegal alien or Ronald Mcdonald they shot him. Then they tried to cover it up. Several other agents testified seeing them picking up shell casings at the scene, then lying in their official reports. I hope you dont agree that this is behavior that should be tolerated or condoned by law enforcement, no less.

A little reading goes a long way. Taking your information from Hannity, Rush, and Fake News is not such a good idea.

Wow, someone is a little close minded.  Go ahead and spin this into what you want...

"White House officials said Bush didn't pardon the men for their crimes, but commuted their sentences because he believed they were excessive and that they had already suffered the loss of their jobs, freedom and reputations."

Yeah. They're going to have the felony convictions on their records for the rest of their lives. It's not like they're going to be cops or border patrol agents anymore.

so now we are comparing convicted killers to border patrol agent's who felt their lives were in danger??  Exactly what does a person who kills someone for drugs, or robbery have in common with these two border patrol agents?  Have you ever been in law enforcement? Have you ever felt your live was endangered?

I think anyone would deserve a medal for shooting Ronald McDonald.

Don't take that as inspiration rwarn, I don't have any stray medals laying around.

You dont think there are convicted killers in prison who did so because they felt their lives were in danger?

By trying to cover up the crime, they knew they were on the wrong side of the law.

Why apply a softer standard to an offender simply because they committed a crime while wearing a badge?

Because a few particular people agree with the outcome of the incident.

It's kind of like when Guido all but said on another thread, "To be a terrorist you have to be a shade of brown."  Who started this thread?

On the other hand, I'm not too learned on this particular case, but what I'm aware of, makes me feel like I should agree with the release.  The Federal gov't has chosen not to seal the borders, the Federal gov't has chosen not to significantly step up border enforcement since 911, and then the Federal gov't has chosen to hamstring remaining border patrol officers with "grey area" laws/rules/regs.  If the border does not have any laws, so be it.  Seal the border, enforce the laws, set up whatever structure you want to deal with immigrants: or don't.

Sorry, TU, no spin just the facts that were presented at trial. They were convicted by a jury and the verdict was upheld on appeal. They committed a crime and then tried to cover it up. They should be in prison, subject to the same sentencing guidelines as any other person convicted under the same federal statute.

Do you really think that this would even be an issue had the right wing talkers gotten a hold of it and turned these two into martyrs? Hell, no. And if you cant admit that then you are being dishonest or fooling yourself.

FYI, for anyone wondering, I am in law enforcement and have been for the past 17 yrs. And YES we should be held to the same standards as anyone else. Not higher and certainly not lower.

If they felt that their lives were in danger, why were they picking up shell casings and making false reports of the incident? If they were in fear of their lives, write the reports and leave the evidence and allow for a competent investigaiton to clear them.
