Oh no! This saturday is C-USA Championship at TU at 11:00am.
I bought tickets two days ago. [:(]

Perfect, then come play softball (it won't be a full game) and watch the game on Joe Momma's massive bigscreen!
(For those of us without tickets, anyway.)
I know that many people will go to the TU game. We would normally go (proud season ticket holders), but my kids have early afternoon soccer games on Saturday.
Softball at the new ball park a couple of weeks before they break ground sounds awesome. I can bring the kids and they can say they played in the first ballgame ever played on that site.
I will bring a 100 cup dispenser of hot chocolate and some beer.
We can play for a while, then head a block away to Joe Momma's to eat pizza and watch the game. It will be a great place to watch TU win.
This sounds fun. We need some people to play and watch.
We also need somebody to sing the national anthem. USRufnex? You available?
This sounds fun.
I have a bat and decaying glove. I can swing a bat and I play a solid first base. Well as solid as 5'10 1/2" will let me.
I'm in. You had me at the historical aspect.

That sucks! I was looking forward to this. I'll be in H.A. Chapman Stadium supporting the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the Championship game.
Sorry, college football wins.
Not to compete... but tickets are still available. If Tulsa fails to sell out the C-USA championship game forget about the NCAA Tournament or other major athletic events coming to town. Tulsa as a sports town just isn't very good I'm afraid.
But a damn fine logo.
Any idea how many tickets are left? I bought mine two days ago, and they already had me on the visitor-side.
Here's the invitation from the TN Newsletter:
PLAY BALL! (This means you!) – Sat, Dec 6
Sure, they haven't broken ground on the new stadium yet. Who cares! Be the first to play ball downtown since...well, since these guys took the field.
We'll bring the bats, softballs and hot chocolate; you bring the funny hats.
Years from now, you can take your grandkids to a Drillers game and tell them about the time you played at Driller's Field ("Ah, yes, I remember when I played here, back in the day...") No need to mention that the stadium hadn't been built yet...and you were playing softball with a bunch of TulsaNow nuts, whose average speed in the 40-yard dash was just under a minute. (We predict that the essential lack of hand-eye coordination will also be omitted from your tale.)
Join us for an hour of spontaneous fun this Saturday morning! Bring the kids, bring the dogs (heck, bring the mother-in-law) to celebrate the return of baseball to downtown Tulsa. Come to play or just to watch. After the "game," we'll proceed to Joe Mamma's to eat pizza and cheer the TU football team on to victory.
WHAT: TulsaNow Spontaneous Softball Invitational
WHEN: Saturday, Dec 6, 10:30-11:30 AM
WHERE: Downtown at Archer and Elgin

Nah. Not to go off on a tangent, but your concerns are a bit overblown. These things just aren't a massive draw to people who don't have a dog in the fight. TU's fan base isn't big enough. Even if it were, there's no guarantee they'd show up. Here's Jacksonville Municipal Stadium last year for the ACC Championship:

Does it make Jacksonville a bad sports town? Nah, it just means people weren't interested in the game.
I hope folks turn out, though. Go TU!
If anyone is interested in buying a jersey, it's sure to become a collector's item.

Floyd: That was a neutral site game. This is the only Division-I football program in the second largest metro area in a football crazed state hosting a conference championship game in a newly renovated stadium after going 10-2 for the year. Neutral site games often do poorly, that's why C-USA has the top ranked team host.
To answer the above question - there are about 15,000 tickets left. This could be very embarrassing.
OK football geeks...
We will miss you, but this thread is about playing softball Saturday morning.
I mentioned this game to the mayor and she is trying to make it. I mentioned it to the Drillers and Hornsby thought he would try to make an appearance.
We need some people who actually own gloves and can throw the ball. Spread the word!
More conflicts. BTW plays for the state championship at Sand Springs at 10:30 Saturday. The planning gods are angry.
I think I may actually go to my first football game....sorry.
Is there any way you can change the date on the downtown baseball thing?
The Sports Animal will be at Joe Mammas that day.
I don't think so. You guys will be missed.
This softball game is going to be fun. I think the Mayor and the Driller mascot will be there.
Spread the word.
Free hot chocolate! Fun people!
Historic ball game!
We got commitments from the Mayor's office and from the Drillers to show up.
We need players and fans.
Spread the word!
softball on a future ballpark site...lol .... what a nutty bunch and warped
Does anyone know how to post a new topic? It keeps telling me invalid user name when I try to post a new topic, but it will let me reply to topics??? Can you help?
I'm half tempted to show up and gawk.
I'll be there. Just to say we did it. :)
Also glad to hear of a growing number of these sorts of crazy, spontaneous ideas centered on downtown. People are talking about street art, renegade gardening, flashmobs, etc. I love it! (And, of course, more Spontaneous Acts of Bocce...)
BTW, I ran into Paul Tay the other day, and he had a great idea: a TulsaNow restaurant "crawl" in which everyone would ride their bikes from place to place. Hop off your bike, sample an appetizer or whatever, and move on to the next restaurant.
If we did this during the winter, we could call it the "Icicle Bicycle Festival." I want to do it just b/c I like the name so much! It would also be cool to do it at night...imagine how cool it would look if we had 25 or more bikes, all with bike lights and/or headlamps glowing down the streets.

Count me in!
The softball thing sounds fun. I'm new and want to meet some of you crazies.
The field is mowed and marked off.
Everyone ready?
