So...My wife is a big Jason Castro fan. For those of you who don't know, he's the kid with the dreads on the last season of American Idol.
She visited his MySpace page tonight to see when he might be releasing a CD and was delighted/shocked to learn that he would be performing at a venue called the Fly Trap Music Hall in Tulsa.
The address is 514 E 2nd. I was confused as this seemed like an address very close to Joe Momma's (where I spend about 100+ hours a week).
Long story short. The address is the same as the location currently known as Club UV. You may remember it as the Ministry or even as Outlaws Ranch.
Being that this place is directly across the parking lot from me and that I've never even heard of it, I thought I'd throw it out to you guys. Anybody know anything about this? The building itself has great potential and I think we'd all agree that a change from a troubled hip-hop club to a general music venue would be a welcome one.
See what you can dig up on this place. My web searching skills are clearly not sufficient.

Wasn't that the old Monkey Bar or Club or whatever? I remember seeing a pretty good cover band there one night, but can't remember too much of it after having one too many Rolling Rocks (keep in mind this was BEFORE Nellies where real beer could be had).
If so, I agree it has great potential. It had an awesome outdoor area (this was where the cover band put on their show).
Tell your wife she has good taste :)
proud dreadhead #2501 here hehehe

I'm thinking the address is for the current club Pure. If you Google Street view the address it shows club pure.
I think the Monkey Bar was what is now Plan B, which is on 3rd Street. It is the one with the outdoor stage.
Thanks for the links. Looks like some good shows.
ill just be glad when a club opens up downtown that doesn't change names 12 times a year and actually has class. something like The Church in Denver.
Smells like Steve Kitchell.

No kitchell. I don't know for sure, but the Flytrap part makes me think it's the same guys that run Plan B.
It is. I met one of the owners yesterday. Should be cool.
I drive past that building a lot, and over the last six years I've been in Tulsa it's changed identities about 10 times or so. It was a techno club, a country bar, a hip hop club, various teen clubs, etc. Its most recent identity was "Club Pure," an imitation of the Hollywood Club Pure attended by so many brainless starlets. If you hadn't seen it the walls had very badly-painted yellow accents that spilled over onto the bricks... not in an artsy way, but in a "we can't be bothered to do this right" way.
Incidentally, Club Pure died after its owner was shot there:

I can't find the article, but a Tulsa policeman told me a cop was shot to death in the alley to the side of the building, and that the bullet hole is still on the wall.
Despite all this I don't think Kitchell has been involved with the building for quite some time.
At any rate, I'm overjoyed that it's becoming a live music venue, one that's apparently being run by an awesome guy doing everything he can to boost the music scene in Tulsa.

Does Kitchell still control the 81st and Memorial club? It has many problems with the bouncers getting the police called on them for abuse, just wondering.
To Have Heroes is Andy Skib's (formerly the lead singer of MWK) new band. Andy Skib also has been playing in David Cook's band, so I am sure that is how Jason Castro got in the mix on this show. Just thought I would throw that little tidbit in there. Never heard of the FlyTrap but it would be a nice change from what that place has been.
Maybe we can get them to serve good beer. [:)]

Not sure what it's called now but in the day it was The Dallas and Ocean Club.
Update:
I went to the Flytrap on Saturday night (after OU beat OSU) and I must say that the place looks great and the new owners of the club are a welcome change to the neighborhood.
They've got a nice schedule of concerts coming up and I would like to encourage you all to help reverse the curse of that building by supporting the new guys.

It was Limelight at one point, also.
