And so the retaliation begins?

I wouldn't say it was retaliatory... it is a CYA move. The Church as a conservative appearance because of their staunch abortion position, in spite of members voting 53% for Obama. But no matter the voting or the appearance, a Church which is also a sovereign can in no way be related to a group embedded in any sort of voting shenanigans. Just no way the Church can afford that politically or financially (if the IRS comes to revoke tax exempt status... or even threaten to).
Story was also careful to emphasize that there were legitimate charges of embezzlement at the top levels of management.
It ain't all about the registration allegations.

People forget that the Catholic Church was a major player in the Vietnam Antiwar Movement or that it continues to support the Left through the Liberation Theology movement in Latin America. Also Tulsa's Catholic Church has been an outspoken critic of HB1804.
American Catholics may end up going through the same political schizms the Southern Baptists went through... I hope conservatives don't hijack the catholic church, and dupe people into thinking that abortion and gay marriage are the only issues that matter.

Not so sure about gay marriage, but the pro-life position espoused by the Catholic church (anti-abortion, anti-death penalty) is hardly a result of conservatism. It is inherent in the faith.
Sounds like a bitter clinger thing to me.
