As of 8:47pm, you're still being optimistic.

But not unrealistic.

How does that math work? Is this some new kind of conservative only math that I don't know about?

OK, so he said $97k and up is "upper class" or rich.  But he DID NOT say he would raise taxes on people making that amount.  Only on singles making $200k, $250k on couples.  I guess that would be "deluxe upper class rich"

Obama: "I've heard you say this is a trillion dollar tax cut on the middle class by adjusting the cap. Understand that only 6 percent of Americans make more than $97,000 — (cheers, applause) — so 6 percent is not the middle class — it's the upper class... But understand, this is the top 6 percent, and that is not the middle class."

I agree.  And looking at ACTUAL PEOPLE AND ACTUAL INCOMES ACCORDING TO CENSUS FIGURES, Obama is right.... which now makes me solidly "middle class."   Yeah, me!

And you know what that means.... it means that those making over 97k will be getting an "upper income tax cut."

The top six percent of wage earners should not consider themselves as "middle class."  That would be incorrect...

http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/22600.html

The most commonly cited figures from the Census data are from all households mixed together. Median income among all U.S. households in 2006 was $48,201. The middle 20 percent ranged from about $38,000 to $60,000; and the middle 60 percent—the "Baucus middle class"—stretched from about $20,000 to $97,000.

That's the entire country's household income profile. But often single people want to know how they fit into the world of other single people, and married couples want to compare themselves with other married couples. So in Table 1, we divide American households into five categories before dividing those groups of similar households into income ranges.

Some of us sometimes have to do things other than read the forum. (even me, on rare occasion)

It doesn't matter what Obama said "rich" was. What matters is his proposed tax policy, which as the link I posted earlier clearly illustrates will result in a tax savings for most families making less than $250,000 a year.

You can dissemble all you like, but until he actually does propose raising taxes on people earning less than $250,000 a year, you're just making **** up.

Of course, if anybody believes that Obama's tax policy will pass Congress in its current form without any modification, I've got a bridge to sell them. I expect the increases on the upper end will be scaled back. There are a whole lot of congressional Dems in the tank for wealthy donors.
