Traveling to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit yesterday I noticed the Mile Markers are there, but now there are two of them one right behind the other.
One appears to be a newer sign, paint seems brighter, on a new metal post. Both the old and new are in place, on both directions of the turnpike.
Also there is work happening to the center median, but no repair to the actual surface of the road or the bridges.
My guess is they put up all the new signs and then at a latter date will remove the old signs. Maybe someone else has a better idea or someone knows someone who works for ODOT, (or would that be the TrunPike Athority?) One can always ask the toll collector.. I always wondered what the TurnPike signs mean that say "Do Not Drive Into Smoke", So If you see smoke what are you supposed to do, pull over & stop or what? My guess is they mean wildfire smoke blowing over the road, I don't know if that's correct or not... Speaking of mile markers I heard the new mile markers on the RiverSide Jogging trail look real nifty, (the part that is finished).[}:)]

Whew! That is a relief!
I thought I was seeing double.
Do not drive into smoke:
I was told (don't remember by who) that the smoke can get thick enough to extinguish the fire in your engine, and you. I don't know if it is actually true.
Edit:
Forgot to mention that poor visibility can lead to hitting something you cannot see. Ouch!
the new signs probably reflect a recalibration of their stationing.
I noticed the same thing too driving to Wichita Saturday night. Incredibly important to spend our tax money re-calibrating mile markers.

i don't necessarily disagree when we are talking a few inches or even a few feet, but I bet the trucking industry cares a lot, since they want to have to most accurate measurements for calculating fuel and what not.
