If I get to wear a hard hat, carry around rolled up blue prints under my arm, and say cool things like: "punch list" I'm in.

Does it pay at least $300k/year? [;)]

The part of my previous job I loved most was writing specifications for architects using the best materials at a fair price. The worst part of the job was doing an onsite inspections during construction and catching the contractor using the cheapest material.

Percentage that this this happened during my fifteen years on the job? About ninety six percent.

Percentage that the contractor was confronted and forced to redo or at least abide by specs from that point on? I'd say about zero percent.

Mr. Burns

We get into that kind of unwelcome activity by some G.C.s very often. To be fair though there are just as many that really do want to build the owner a good building. We have even had General Contractors come to us and suggest something even better than we had specified and often at their own expense. By in large it is a two way street.
