Forget global warming. A Tulsa startup is hoping to make the power generation industry a little cooler.
Everest Sciences makes a part for gasoline turbines that injects cool air, thus increasing efficiency.
The company, which opened its headquarters in Tulsa recently, was founded by Seattle-based private equity executive Dave Voeller and other investors after they purchased the rights to the concept.
"Tulsa has of the talent pool for the particular kind of technical staff we need," said Voeller, a graduate of the University of Oklahoma who earned a graduate degree from the University of Tulsa.
Everest Sciences says it plans to hire 20 to 30 salespeople and engineers in Tulsa during the next two years.
The company's actual machine — over 13 feet wide and 12 feet tall — will be produced by a contractor in El Paso, Texas.
The technology works by injecting cooled air into gasoline turbines. Cooler air is more condensed and therefore produces more of a charge when combined with ignited gasoline.
"It works kind of like a car with a turbo-cooler," Voeller said.
The company plans to target manufacturers and small power plants for sales.
The machines go for more than $100,000 apiece, but the company has already sold two.
Voeller said engineers at the Tulsa headquarters will help streamline the product and make it more efficient.

I see here there are a few floors in OTC available for lease, probably even get a good rate.

This is the kind of company I like to see. Not a subdivision of mega corp that could move in a week. A company that fits well in Tulsa (engineering, manufacturing, energy base) and can grow in the city.
