Title: Let's have another trust
Post by: shadows on September 17, 2008, 08:46:16 PM
The rabbit in wizard of oz was always saying "Lets have a party".

In the Tulsa government the saying is "Lets make a Trust".   This is all like an old roll top desk with all the little cubby holes that the trust fill and the bureaucracies close the top and lock it.   At present we are going to form another trust (ball park) with mayor as a member and also has the power to approve or disapprove all acts of the trust.

Is the "government of the people" about to be violated again with another trust being stuffed in the old roll top desk and locked away?

This one isn't even a "Trust" in many ways that others are. It's a private, for-profit business operation with local protection, no liabilities and freedom to do most anything they wish.

If local public money wasn't involved, they'd be filing with the Corporation Commission.

This needs to stop here.

Neither was the Great Planes deal where the AG said it was illegal from the beginning.  Who paid?

The ball park trust was formed to not only divert public money to a private entity but opens the justification door for future councilors to say "we will follow the money for you."

Is not when the city is beneficiary of the trust they also are responsible for the debts of the trust?  Would it not be considered a way to circumvent the people right to vote on the bonds that will be issued as revenue bonds?

I think we need a charter change that would require a public vote to give final approval for any new authorities, boards, commissions or public trusts.
