This has probably been asked before, but what is being built between Best Buy and Mathis Brothers, visible from Hwy 169?

Dave and Busters. I hear completion is probably in January.
I am sorry but what is a "Dave and Busters?"
Opps, never mind. Now I remember being in one in Dallas. Quite a place and great food. They must think their draw will be quite strong locating it off the "Strip."

The wife and I drove back by this place on Monday. This is obviously supposed to be an attraction, but the road that leads to it does not appear to be built for heavy traffic. Is this a concern? Or will the traffic impact be minimal?
Just looking at the structure they're erecting...this will be the smallest D&Bs that I've ever seen. I've only visited the two in Denver/Boulder and the Dallas location, but it just seems really tiny compared to those.
Still, it'll be a good alternative to Incredible Pizza for those of us wanting to play without as many kids around.

its not D&B, its the aloft hotel.
Are they building something else on that lot? Because D&Bs has been announced on that parcel since early summer.
The sign in front of the building says Dave and Busters. But what do they know...

Spoke to someone today who works for D&B's and he stated that they are scheduled to open sometime around December.

I will take the word of an executive for D&B. They would not be flying in for nothing. They also would not be just telling people a random date in which they plan to open here in Tulsa.

The Dave and Busters is being built on an out parcel of the hotel site. D&B has almost completed construction and I don't think the Hotel has even started.
D&B is supposed to open in December but the Hotel doesn't open until November 2009.

Hehe, I remember the Aloft was going in that area, but whats going in right now is the Dave and Busters. If the hotel is still going to be built, it will be going in next door.
I believe the hotel will be next to Dave & Busters. The D&B is sitting on a pad site for the hotel development.
Yes, and our Casa Bonita is weak compared to their too, but they are a much larger city.
The address for Aloft put's it behind David's Bridal, not behind Best Buy.

Sometimes you don't get it right the first time. Reliving the first time is not the same as improving. Denver's Casa Bonita is a major tourist attraction, complete with it's own South Park episode.

If that's the case, then PF Chang's should be as well, complete with a stoned towel...

Didn't we get an episode with "Million Child Blow"? It was the brown noise episode.
I believe Mr Garrison is from our area too.

No, the concert was going to be in Oklahoma City, but was redirected to Little Rock after a flood. Little Rock is considered Mr. Garrison's hometown.

They are cozy rooms with nice quilts and furniture, but no TV's or elevators.
It looks like the Aloft Hotel is going in as promised. I stayed at the one in Plano, cool hotel.
Aloft is apparently owned by Starwood Hotels (also own Westin and Sheraton) . They have a placeholder page for Tulsa's Aloft:

I am not trying to argue CF, but from driving by it looks like it should be complete way before July 2010. Also, ALOFT hotels are similar to a hyatt place. The old Amerisuites at 71st and yale was converted to a Hyatt Place. They both seem to have the same style of room, with the modern decor, order breakfast from the touch screen computer and similar front desk areas. Nice hotel, and can usually be found for a decent price.
Yeah, I think they're on target for an early opening. They could be done by late Spring if they wanted to. They may be trying to wait out the downturn, though. Limited service hotels are overbuilt nationwide, and they're fighting each other tooth and nail for what business there is.
The aloft won't necessarily have this problem, but similarity among brands tends to seriously muddy the water. The differences between a fairfield inn, a hampton inn, a holiday Inn expresss, a comfort suites, staybridge suites, a springhill suites, or a clarion inn are almost impossible to tell -- from inside or outside. Aside from your loyalty card, the difference is almost nil.

When I need a stopover place, I seriously consider one factor...is the indoor pool freezing cold or swimmable? If it is, awesome, kids can swim themselves to sleep (after a good scrubbing ;)) The Hampton Inn OKC Bricktown has a really nice pool setup for kids. Breakfast, who cares? Comflort Sleep mattress? They are all crappy.

That Hampton Inn is nice and adds a lot to Bricktown. I think something similar at 8-10 stories right up to the street like the one in OKC would do well in Blue Dome, maybe on that parking lot at the northeast corner of 1st & Detroit. Then get that vacant brick building at 1st & Elgin renovated into a restaurant, or better, a microbrewery and that stretch of 1st could look pretty good.
Anyway, while the location is odd I think having an Aloft is good for Tulsa. It would've have been cool to see this by the BOK Center (where a hotel is planned) though, instead of some other chain that will probably end up there.

It's good because when this location succeeds they may consider another, and downtown would be a logical step.
