I recieved a letter in the mail from Countrywide....Alerting me that a former employee (of their's) has sold all my personal information including my S.S.N. to god knows who....Just wanted to let every one else know in case you did not get this letter....And to see if anyone has any advice to offer...Countrywide is offering free credit monitering service to those affected for 2 years...
I don't know and haven't received anything like that. But they have been annoyingly persistent though lately about refinancing. Every week I get letters in the mail trying to get me to refinance Touting a possible 1/2% reduction "though the fine print says you may end up paying more over all than you are now". And have of late even started getting phone calls. They must be desperate lol. I figure if I do refinance its not worth it unless its at least 1%, and I could probably get that now, especially now that the interest rate has just dropped again and has a good chance of dropping more fairly soon. Countrywide still seems kind of scummy and like they are not trying to get you into the best deal, but the deal that will make them the most money,,, short term, without concern for how it will effect them or their clients long term. Isnt that how they got into the bad situation they are in now?
You might call them and check...This letter was innocuous looking like the rest of the crap you get and shred or throw out....
This deal is for real. They were saying on the radio yesterday about 2mm got their identity ripped off.
This has being going on for years in the credit card industry. You get a mole inside and they rip off the info and send it off to their brothers in Indonesia or Nigeria.

This just floors me. I work in an industry governed by the FCRA; I cannot see how such a large profile company can allow this to happen.
Hopefully Countrywide has good lawsuit insurance; I smell a class-action about to happen. I'm usually against petty litigiousness, but in this case, it's warranted.
Well you know any company could have some jerk-off like this working for them....Now did they do a solid back ground check when they hired them....That's the question....If this particular person was a crook before they were hired and there was a record of it...Thats when I get pissed.....

That's what I'm waiting to see..that's what the company I work for does. Background screenings.
