Title: Where in the World is Sarah Palin?!?
Post by: CoffeeBean on September 07, 2008, 11:31:48 AM
Introduced to the world on August 29th as the successor to John McCain, Sarah Palin has yet to give a single interview with the MSM.

Not one.  Zero.  Zilch.

Why the silence?  Here is a woman propped up to take over leadership of the United States at a moments notice, and the McCain camp won't allow access to her?

Why is that?  Giving canned stump speeches is one thing, but responding to pointed questions about foreign policy is quite another.

Is this a tacit admission that Palin is not ready to intelligently discuss issues of foreign policy?

And don't tell me that Palin won't get a fair shake from the MSM.  If she can't hold her own against the MSM, I certainly don't want her negotiating with Iran, Russia or China.

So, Repubs . . . what gives?

[EDIT:  For background purposes:

Ferraro interviewed within 4 days

Quayle interviewed within 1 day

Bentsen interviewed within 1 day

Eagleton interviewed within 10 days]

It's SUNDAY.  She's in church.

Why aren't you?

Glenn Beck interviewed her recently.  Glenn has a show on CNN Monday - Friday.  You know that network:

The Obama News Network.

Greta Van Susteren hosted a special one hour show on her last nite, replete with interviews.

Did you miss that one, too?

Sarah is trying to get an interview on the Oprah show.

Oprah said sure, AFTER the election.

Obama's been on Oprah's show TWICE......

If by "recently," you mean last JUNE, then you are correct.  Of course, Beck didn't ask any questions about her selection as a VP candidate or her thoughts on any single issue of foreign policy.  I wonder why that is . . .

In fact, when asked if she would consider going to Washington, she responded, "no, there are a lot that Alaska could be, should be doing to contribute more to the U.S. and I think that I can help do that as governor of the state staying here".  Link and transcript here (//%22http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2008/08/31/sarah-palin-glenn-beck%22)

Yes, replete with interviews of people who are not named Sarah Palin.

Are you trying to pass off a non-interview with Palin in response to my question about an interview with Palin?

It's a simple question:

Why is Palin not giving any interviews with the MSM?

Not only that, but look at this (and keep in mind this is NPR I got this from, last I checked NPR was pretty much a down-the-middle organization).

Here's the answer from Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager:
quote:
"She'll agree to an interview when we think it's time and when she feels comfortable doing it."
Link here (//%22http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/washington/politics-usa-politics-palin-media.html?_r=1&oref=slogin%22)

I'm sorry, but that's not good enough, not for the VP of the United States.

Palin is the person whom McCain selected to take over at a moment's notice.  Not several weeks notice, not "when she feels comfortable doing it," -- a moments notice.

I am not sure what point you are making.  I understand the words you typed, but the point is not responsive to the question presented.

We all know Palin gave interviews before her announcement as a VP candidate - but the question is - why isn't she giving them now?

The fact that she gave interviews in the past only makes her silence more perplexing.  If she isn't ready for the press, you cannot tell me that she's ready to lead this country.

First, Biden has been on both 60 Minutes and Meet the Press since Denver.

Second, the real issue is that Palin is a complete unknown, and there is only 60 more days until the convention.  Whatever you think about Biden, you certainly can't say he is an unknown.  I suppose the strategy is to keep her locked away, so no one really knows anything about her, other than her written, rehearsed speeches.  It's not just that she is vastly inexperienced to be president, its that we cannot even determine what her positions are.

On the issues (http://www.ontheissues.org/Sarah_Palin.htm) has ONE REFERENCE with respect to Palin and Foreign policy:  she supports the Peace Corp.  Compare that to the other candidates.

This woman has no business being the VP.  We know nothing relevant about her, other than she likes to make up facts in speeches, and apparently she isn't ready to answer questions.  That she would even imply that she could fill the shoes of Hillary Clinton is insulting to women.

I watched Bob Shieffer interview McCain this morning (McCain did fine, seemed to want to backpedal on a lot of the rightwing stuff that came out of the convention) and Shieffer pressed McCain on Palin's availablity to come on his show. McCain said that he would make sure that Palin was available soon for an interview with Shieffer.

Heaven forbid she might schedule an interview on her own without Cotton's approval. When HE decides she's ready, HE'LL make her available.

BTW, McCains real comfortable with that backpedalling on the right wing stuff. That's why he has such trouble with them. He demagogues them.

Palin agrees to interview
By MIKE ALLEN | 9/7/08 2:41 PM EST  Text Size:

Under pressure for being shielded for questioning, Sarah Palin has a agreed to sit down with Charles Gibson of ABC's "World News Tonight," according to an ABC News official.

No other interviews are scheduled. It will be the first TV interview for Palin since she was named 10 days ago as running mate to John McCain.

Palin had planned to return to Alaska this weekend but is so popular on the stump that she is going to stay out a few more days before returning home. One of her sons deploys to Iraq on Thursday.

Palin plans to sit down with Gibson later this week in Alaska, the source said.

The McCain campaign kept her off Sunday shows this weekend and plans to be sparing with high-risk network encounters, which they contend are unimportant to voters despite the media's fixation on them.

But McCain officials could see her reticence was feeding the narrative of her being unprepared for the job.

Joe Biden of Delaware, her counterpart on the Democratic ticket, challenged her Sunday to submit to network questioning.

"She's a smart, tough politician," Biden told Tom Brokaw in a "Meet the Press" interview live from Wilmington, Del. "So I think she's going to be formidable. Eventually, she's going to have to sit in front of you like I'm doing and have done. Eventually, she's going to have to answer questions and not be sequestered. Eventually, she's going to have to answer on the record."

I like Gibson, and he will do a competent job.  But the agreement to give an interview "later in the week" tells me the McCain camp realizes that she's not ready yet.

Is she too busy tomorrow?

This episode is really indicative of the bigger problem with Palin - by all accounts, she's not ready.  If she becomes President, the most critical decisions will not wait until "later in the week."

With due respect to Gov. Palin, the office demands a candidate ready on day one.

Equally troubling is the perception created by hiding Palin.  Has she not formulated any of her own opinions?  When did she first consider some of the national issues like Iraq, the mortgage crisis, foreign relations between Tawain and mainland China?

Right or wrong, this delay gives the impression that whenever Palin does speak, it will be the words of her advisors, and not the woman asking for your vote.

I don't want to see Palin give another speech she didn't write or to see anymore puff pieces on Fox News.  I want to see her answer questions on Meet the Press or This week.  If Chris Wallace can give a challenging interview then that would work.  I want to read interviews she has with the print press, I still read the paper because it isn't about sound bites.

Something about the pot and the kettle comes to mind here.

The Republicans have, by far, one of the most scandal-ridden veep choices in ages, and they lament the media for doing the job that the McCain handlers obviously did in passing.

Vetting her.

I'll say the Republicans aren't scrambling.  They have Palin sequestered until she can get boned up on McSame policy.

Look for it next Friday.

I am sure the Palins are very proud of their son. We all should be of any young person who volunteers to fight for our freedoms. Joe Biden's son is also going to Iraq soon. They are both heroes.

By the way, why do you think that Track Palin (and her husband Todd) are registered to vote as Independents?

Do they not realize that their mother is an important republican?

I'm a little more reserved in awarding "Hero" status to serving military personell.

Track is deploying as an infantryman in a Stryker Brigage to the most dangerous province in Iraq:  Diyala.

Biden's son is deployed as an Attorney.
His mission is to lawyer the enemy to death.

Done much research on Joe Biden?

Where's the "real change" in that choice?

People should be outraged Obama didn't think a woman could do the VP job, nor another minority.  Instead, he picked someone "safe" an aging white bread Washington insider who has been in D.C. about 10 years longer than McCain.  Talk about more of the same.

Anyone else notice the only people complaining that Gov. Palin is busy getting things in order for a hard 60-day campaign are people who weren't going to vote for McCain in the first place?

"Tharah Palin won't talk to the media....WHAAA! WHAAA!"

I think you're confusing the number of NYFD personnel killed on 9-11, and the number of NYPD killed.

The firemen were the heros, but are not as serving member of the MILITARY.

Fighting the hopeless fire in the lost cause, and going down with the ship takes courage and professionalism.

The police mostly exited out when the building went terminal.  And, their radios worked much better for some reason; they were informed by HQ to withdraw.

Those that lost their lives did so trying to do their job.

No you're not. When Palin was nominated you referred to her as a "hero". She didn't serve at all.

BTW, you think training as a lawyer and serving as an infantryman is a good use of military resources? You think he even had much choice in the matter?

Biden II is serving as a lawyer.

He's a captain deployed for active duty.

??
You've stated that Palin is a hero, putting her in the company of 911 heroes and combat heroes. Why?

You seem to think that Palin's son going in as infantry is more patriotic than a lawyer going in and serving as a lawyer. Why?

Military Heros
NYFD Heros
NYPD Heros
Work-Life Balance Heros
Teleprompter Hero
Hero of the Working Man

Seems like the term Hero might need a little definition and specificity.

I would say Sarah Palin is a political "hero", who through a hard work, intelligence and good work-life balance, went from Hockey Mom - PTA - City Council - Mayor - Governor - Vice President.

Of course, Radical Feminists hate her.  She has balanced Motherhood, business success (commercial fishing), and political success.  And believes in God.

And shaves her legs, wears lipstick, fixes her hair, and wears nylons.

Of COURSE they hate her.

Heavens, don't stop re-writing Webster's there FB. There's lots of heroes.

Comedy heroes who teach us to laugh at ourselves.

TPD heroes who answer domestic disturbance calls.

Political heroes who convince us to dismiss our intelligence and our own interests in favor of fear of potential evil.

Hockey Mom heroes who know their place and wear their make-up and stockings the way old men like it.

Demagoguing heroes who say one thing to their party then go out and say another at town hall meetings.

Why, heck FB you're just a soft hearted liberal after all. We're all heroes of one sort or another after all. Its all good.[8D]

Certainly with a loose enough definition of "hero", almost anywone qualifies, even Barach Obama qualifies....

Teleprompter Zero Hero.
