Title: BOK Center Opening Should Honor Labor
Post by: Double A on August 28, 2008, 07:09:46 PM
Since this is occurring on Labor Day weekend, it would have been nice to have a special event for all the rank and file construction workers who safely built this project with  skill, pride and professionalism. I think they deserve recognition and accolades for their achievement, just like those who managed this project on the administrative end.

I just wanted to share a jobsite photo, to pay my own personal tribute to the hard work of the men and women who built the BOK center. If any body else has some jobsite photos, please share. I'll try to post more that I have later.

I've always suspected that Oklahoma has some of the finest craftsmen and craftswomen in the country, the quality craftsmanship of this project seems to confirm that suspicion. One more thing,  let's not forget to celebrate the most important thing to celebrate during this opening weekend, that no one died during construction.

I'm not sure that it is on opening weekend, but I do know, being an Oilers STH, that they are honoring them on Oilers opening night of October 25th.

Look for October 25th on that page.

How about honoring the taxpayers who paid the money so laborers had the opportunity to build the BOK Center?

That was Iron Worker 584 on his MySpace page (//%22http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=194038638&albumId=18015%22) in this thread (//%22http://www.tulsanow.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6139&SearchTerms=iron,worker,584%22) it would be cool if he'd post some of those pics. He's got some great pics.

Here's another one of mine:

Makes you realize how much warmth the ground puts off once you get away from it ;)

Watch the language. Also, in a thread meant to pat the workers on the back, saying it was just a group of illegal aliens is a negative comment.

Nice post AA.

It still amazes me to think back to when they were first aquiring the land and now it's done.  Yes big kudos to the men and women who made this happen all the way from concept to completion.

I rode past last Saturday and it blows me away it's all finished and ready.  I was a naysayer about the arena, but now that it's done, I can't see any reason to keep biznitching about it.  Time to enjoy it.

I agree with all points. I was also a naysayer, but when I was there Wednesday night I couldn't see any reason to not go ahead and enjoy the place. No biznitching.

I was pretty astonished there's no special event for the workers who did this amazing job.

That's pretty customary and should yet be planned if not already. These people deserve a big pat on the back and some token of rememberance.

Nice job you guys and gals who did this.

I drove past it last evening with all the lights on, the changing color of the Iconic Wall and the lit spiraling joints of the surround. It truely looked amazing.

There's much to critisize about the politics and methodology of making it happen, but, make no mistake, what is physically there is magnificent.

Congratulations to all the workers who did this for us.

Thanks for the post AA, agree 100%. Thanks to everyone that worked so hard to build such a beautiful building.

Anyone going on Saturday? I'm taking my mom for the ribbon cutting event. In case you're there, (you'll recognize me and mom, she has wheels and most likely a TU shirt)come up and say howdy.

Thanks for narrowing that down for me Carlton, I'll keep an eye out.

I'm about 6', black hair, goatee, Sagitarious, hope that helps pick me out from the crowd. [:D]

Thanks, that's good to know. It's the first I've heard of it and I try to stay informed. I just thought with the significance and symbolism of Labor Day, it would have been a nice gesture to include something like this in this weekend's opening ceremony activities since we don't really have any Labor Day Parades or celebrations in Tulsa.

I think it is cool that the workers are all getting free tickets to the first hockey game.

That will be one loud crowd and probably the biggest indoor sporting event crowd in state history.

We all should go and thank the workers.

Thats what Jeff Lund wants for the first game here vs. OKC. To beat the attendance record set last year at the Ford Center vs. Tulsa.
