Anyone else wondering when one of the BA Expressway bridges is going to collapse? Every time I drive over the bridges near the 15th and Lewis area, I cringe.
Crews are doing a lot of maintenance work on the bridges lately. Asphalt repair that reminds me of when they resurfaced the Boulder Bridge downtown...just before closing it to traffic b/c it was unsafe.
They're not just patching these babies, though. They're removing and replacing the deck in sections and doing structural work to the supports. What's likely to happen is that they'll grind all of it down to make it even after they finish the repairs, which will make for a very smooth, much safer, drive.

The work they are doing now is kinda cool...
2 a.m. they have portions chiseled out down to the metal rebar.. Whatever they are pouring cures and cars are on it by 6.
Most people do not even realize anything is happening.
Like to know what the product is they are using.
To achieve that degree of strength that quick is radical.
Side note...
The Bryce Gallagher / Littlefield building, is very much a centerpiece from the BA at that hour.
i lost a rim on one of those bridges...and the state has been repeatedly denying negligence on these collection of patches bridges
I remember a while back on that stretch of road where rebar became exposed and at least 3 people got flat tires....state didn't pay a thing to those people.

Really freaky to drive under or over and see a hole all the way through the deck.
I read that the patches on those specific bridges that are planned to be re-decked in about 5 years are only temporary, It seems to me like there are 2 different kinds of patches they are using, a nice perfectly flat concrete on the bridges further southeast on the BA (Harvard exit-ish?) and then a lighter concrete that doesn't sit as even with the rest of the road on some of the patched areas around the Lewis area.
Maybe they are cheaping out on the ones they are fully re-decking in a few years. Either way, these were by far the worst bridges to drive over on my way home. I had to drive 3 feet to one side or the other half the time to avoid having my teeth rattled out of my skull, as if I were avoiding ruts after an ice storm. I wanted to kiss somebody when I saw they had started redoing them, and I wanted to punch somebody in the face when I saw how they half-assed the repairs to 169. Guess you can't win em all.
They've also been beefing up the columns and girders under the 21st street bridge - that thing had exposed, rusting rebar...bad bad bad.
