Title: McAlester detectives seek bloggers' names
Post by: zstyles on August 13, 2008, 10:11:25 AM
Well ....guess its not really "blogging" but im sure The Associated Press didn't know any better..ANYWAY...

"Police detectives seeking the identities of bloggers who criticized McAlester officials on an online message board"

Should anyone here be worried about what is said about whom? What would this do to this forum if a judge would allow this....any comments?

Anonymity doesn't necessarily protect you from civil suits and criminal investigations, especially if you're a material witness. Plain and simple.

McAlester Police Capt. Don Hass said the investigation concerns "criminal libel" complaints. Many of the posters have been critical of former state Sen. Gene Stipe, D-McAlester, who was sentenced in January 2004 to five years of probation for perjury and campaign funding violations; his brother, the recently deceased Francis Stipe; and local elected officials, including District Attorney Jim Bob Miller.

Apparently the local DA took it personally when some of the postings mentioned his sons drug arrest, so there might be a conflict of interest.
