Title: Broadcasting live from...Mercury Lounge?
Post by: PonderInc on August 11, 2008, 05:43:18 PM
I've been thinking about how KVOO used to broadcast live from the Cain's Ballroom way back when... It makes me wonder: could it ever happen again?

Could we have live broadcasts from the Mercury Lounge, for example, every Saturday Night?  Or live jazz from SoChey on Fridays?  Could Tulsa once again be a place that celebrates music and shares it with the world?

On one hand, I know that Clear Channel and all the monopolies have ruined local radio programming.  (Except for the cool stuff that KWGS does with musical shows like "Folk Salad" and "Swing on This," etc...)

But, with digital radio creating new frequencies, and the internet turning everyone into one-man, free-wheeling, media moguls...could it happen?

Where's John Henry?

He was terrific at this....Roadhouse Blues Show.

Yes, live broadcast from Mercury. Spare us the trip to their bathroom.

Actually, most venues need the live audience. So, dead air.

John Henry passed away a few years ago.

Duh....my mistake. I should have said "where's John Henry when you really really really need him?"

Forgot where I was. Sorry.

This day and age it would be an internet radio broadcast or podcast more likely.

Yep. It sure wouldn't take much to get that started and just think what it might grow into (think Austin City Limits).  Cain's Ballroom has serious potential to be in a national spotlight with something like this.
