I lost a couple trees in the ice storm last December. One of them was in my backyard and, even though I've lived in my house for about 14 years, we have never been able to figure out what kind of tree it was. To this day, my wife thinks it was just a huge weed that grew into the size of a tree. Anyway, I digress...
I removed the tree and had the stump ground out. Now, I have all these 'little trees' growing up in my lawn where, I assume, are along the roots of the old tree.
Is there a way to stop this? Any tree surgeons out there? It's making my yard look like crap between mowings.
The only hope is to dig out the root system en toto. It is either fermosa or some gum tree. Does it have fuzzy spade-shaped leaves or elongated rod-shaped leaves? Eeeeeeevillllll either way buddy. Just start over. Dig out the yard.
Yep. Those are the leaves. Kinda fuzzy, large. Makes for great shade (when the tree was there).
So, there is no putting some kind of poison in the ground where the trunk used to be that would be sucked up by the roots? That was my hope.
I have the same problem :( Little bradford pears growing up in my front yard everywhere.. that is the LAST thing I want!
Digging out the root system would be impossible, yet 2 other people on the street have had bradford pears taken out and they don't have all the little sprouts coming up! Maybe I should dig down a bit and pull out the roots closest to the surface where these are coming from?
