Job cuts at Channel 6.

I've never understood their "Internet Reports" so maybe they got rid of those people. Seemed like a waste.
Ditto!
I hope they kept all the good people.
It would be a shame to have a channel 5.9
Posting rumors from one forum to another, tsk tsk.
Googling only produces a link to us.
Hope you are right and not panicking the folks down at 6.
Its true and a sad day at KOTV. Its not limited to the web team either. The KOTV management looks very similar to the SEM group management. New helicopter, and new building at a time when TV begins to decay. Not too smart in my opinion.

If they kept Margaret Stokes...it would be channel 10.0
No idea whether it's legit, but there's now a "memo" - detailing 13 layoffs - posted on the forum Samalicious linked.
Tough business. TV stations and newspapers nationwide have been cutting staff. Not just a Tulsa problem. When the economy sags, the advertising and marketing budgets are often trimmed first. And a shrinking pool of folks get their news from mainstream media, meaning even those advertisers not scaling back are considering other sources/new ways to advertise.
Thats a shame. Their website was the most current , and often the only one worth going to at times.
Between FOX23 and KOTV there sure are a lot of people being dumped on the street right now.
So are we done with Travis?
No, he continues to get paid $300,000 a year.
Yes, tv is in troubled times, but poor management decisions have lead to this problem. They had to go out and purchase the most expensive helicopter, and then turnaround and throw cash out the window on their mega new communications center.
Its like buying a lexus when you only make enough for a geo metro. But, you spend more than you have and it will come back to bite you in the butt. And sadly, 13 people had to be the butt of the situation. Hopefully, management will get some of the bite as well.

Wow Travis Myers makes $300,000 a year. Good for him! I just love free market capitalism.
[:D]
Is it just me...or does Travis look like a retired porn star?

Retired?
considering they were the #1 web site in town, it is pretty stupid that they axed the internet side of the house.
oh well, their main competitor will hire some of those people (Tulsa World)
Where did you hear that they axed Internet side? I don't believe that is substantiated.

I heard the CW 19 thing has been doing badly for some time now.

He reminds me of Alex Trebek. I think of Sean Connery hurling insults at him :)

Yeah, turns out people watching Jerry Springer and World's Craziest Bear Attacks aren't interested in the news.

We quit watching TV a few weeks ago. Except for the few times the Cardinals are on Fox 23. I haven't missed it much.

I never could understand the need for CW12/19.

They had to get a new helicoptor and I'd guess it was covered mostly (if not all) by insurance since the last one crashed. The building is debateable . . . they are routinely the ratings winner, but they don't have the large conglomerate cushion that a station like KTUL has.

Exactly . . . they hit the limits of the market for tv news when they started the Fox affiliate. I'd imagine here wasn't much of a market for a fifth newscast that pretty much matches up everything you'll find on KOTV at 10 pm or on 53 all hours of the day.

KOTV did it to face KOKI's 9pm newscast. Other than that, it serves no purpose beyond draining their resources.
The paper said reporter Steve Berg was laid off among others.
Agree with Magaret Stokes comment too [;)]
I can only hope that Rick Wells was one of the people cut. Not that I like to hear of anyone losing their job, but I find him totally annoying, and he's not a nice person from what I've seen.
I could tell you about one night when I ran into him...he was wearing REALLY TIGHT white jeans...but I won't burden all with the details. [:O]

Actually, Rick is a very nice guy in person.
Don't know if you are implying he's gay, but he's married to Tina Wells, spokesperson for EMSA.
Ain't no weatherperson worth $300,000 year. Not around here anyway. This isn't Houston, LA or New York market. Start downsizing at that point.

Ain't his fault though
By no means is it his fault. Heck, he took what they gave him. However, the GM was a former KTUL employee and has been trying all along to get back at her former station. So, she went out and spent a tremendous amount of money, so much so that she has put them in a hole. They should cut her pay and allow all the other people to come back.
