Count me in.
Tonight:
moe. > Ghostland Observatory > the Disco Biscuits
Tomorrow:
Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey > Zappa Plays Zappa > The Roots
What are you clowns seeing?
yes. i'm way excited.
tonight: cheyenne, phantom planet, ghostland observatory, all-american rejects
tomorrow: the effects, colourmusic, zappa plays zappa, the roots
that's my plan as well.
moe. > GO > DB
JFJO (or something I havent seen) > ZPZ > The Roots
Total dance party on the second stage tonight.
I have been dying to see Ghostland Observatory for months. They are definitely the band I am most excited about.
I am hanging out at my warehouse at First and Detroit. I have a tent and a cooler of drinks.
If you like to people watch, this is the Super Bowl.
Better than the fair?[;)]
Tonights lineup seems kind of crowded. I really want to see Apples in Stereo, but they sort of overlap with Ghostland. Decisions, decisions . . .
I considered going but my wife has other commitments tonight and my babysitting staff (grandparents) are unavailable. I need to plan more in advance.
tonight:
sam & the stylees
black swan
phantom planet
the starkweather boys
recorder
disco biscuits
tomorrow:
callupsie
el paso hot button
jfjo
helmet
the roots
I am so gonna be there. [8D]
I was at the conference this afternoon.
Tonight:
The City Lives, Congress of a Crow, Tech Tonic, Mayola, Paramor, All American Rejects
Tomorrow:
Conference
Dick Sims Project, Tell Tale Heart, The Effects, Cavedoll, Chris McLeod, Cat-a-tac, Sleeperstar, Dance Robots Dance
First of all,howdy everyone.
Long time listener,first time caller.
Looking forward to Cheyenne,Ghostland Observatory, checking out The Uglysuit, and Apples in Stereo.
Tomorrow has waaay too many conflicts,so there will probably be a lot of club-hopping.
Either way,I'm looking forward to it.
Just not the heat.

I'm busy watching paint dry so I will not be able to make it. [8D]
Just waiting on the total heat pass out calls and assaults.
I saw the beginning of Mayola, the last 2/3 of Moe, the beginning half of Ghostland Observatory, and pretty much all of Apples in Stereo.
I'm suffering from sensory overload. That was a hell of a night!
Blank Slate was at capacity last night before Apples and there was a pretty long line at east door. I walked up to the western door and got right in. [;)] That trick might work again.
Other than some folks smoking a little you know what and one really rude couple, it seemed like just a lot of people having fun. It was hot. Someone was singing "I'm so f-ing hot" to moe's "Airplane." Didn't see anyone in bad shape or the police giving anyone trouble or vice versa.
Ghostland is something to see. The Apples were great for the first 40 minutes or so and seemed to get tired out.
Blank Slate needs some work.
Yep, total dance party on the second stage as called by TulsaNow's very own deinstein last night.
How about that laser show Ghostland gave the Tulsa skyline last night?
Also:
Lackluster moe. show...as expected. They never do well on festival slots and play all of their mediocre songs like Plane Crash and Captain Ammerica. I still love seeing them, as I grew up going to their shows...but I wish I could get a nice, long Timmy Tucker at a festival for once.
moe. setlist:
Not Coming Down > Wormwood> Okayalright, Skrunk > Kyle's Song> Zed Naught Z > Seat Of My Pants> Plane Crash
E: Captain America
the Disco Biscuits was an absolute rager. Caterpillar to open was phenomenal. Yes, their vocals make me cringe, but when they are jamming they have the best rhythm section and keys around.
the Disco Biscuits Setlist:
Caterpillar, Resurrection > The City > Helicopters1, Spy > November Rain, Reactor > Munchkin Invasion > Reactor > Thieving Magpie
1 ending only, completes 7/18/08
Ghostland Observatory was incredible. Only band I used my VIP pass for. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up. I REALLY want them to play Cain's.
Both Ghostland & the Biscuits noted it was their first time playing in Oklahoma.
Pretty sad, considering Ghostland is from Texas.

Why should you care? You've already noted that 'you hate this effing town' and can't wait to leave.

I'm still here, aren't I?
And I like downtown/uptown a lot. I just think the rest of the city is a total dump.
So, now...back to the music discussion before I was so rudely interrupted by this Hoss character.
The Apples in Stereo were awesome. They even played a song for me! I was over on the side of the stage.
This forum could benefit from a Best of DFest thread with funny or cool things people saw... cuz i definitely saw some funny stuff.

Touch of Grey? Hahaha. Seriously?
...anyhow, tonight was hilarious. The Roots was basically a soft porn in the crowd.
Just got home...lasted until 2:45am.
I had a good time at Dfest. We had a little watering hole set up at the edge of the festival and gave away free liquids to people we recognized.
I went into blank slate once, walked over to the main stage areas a couple of times, but the rest of the two days just tried to stay cool. We also passed out fans promoting ozone alert to everybody who walked down Detroit street
There were lots of bizarre people there. I guessed there was a two tattoo minimum for a while. I saw at least a dozen different color hair choices and enough piercings to make a chain link fence.
Everybody was well behaved outside the fenced areas. The crowd was polite and in a great mood. I saw a few politicians working the crowd and one, Andrew Rice, even came over and hung out with us for a while.
Next year, we are going to have an even bigger party. Dfest is such a good thing for downtown Tulsa. It is hard to not want to be part of it.
I talked with so many people who had never been to Tulsa, but were definately excited to come back. I even had a couple of people call Tulsa "the next Austin".
D-Fest is definately a great thing for Tulsa.
Saw Jacob Fred, Zappa Plays Zappa, and the Roots on Saturday. JFJO was great, but they have really changed their sound and were playing as a five piece -- I think it's a welcome change as they had become sort of predictable, or if not that, stale. Zappa was a lot of fun; they had a couple of the guys who played with Frank Zappa. The Roots were really good; came away impressed with the guitar player more than anything. They were really different from their previous show at Cain's.
The crowd seemed more obnoxious last night. We kept having to avoid this gutter punk kid who smelled like poo and had a Davey Crocket/dreds haircut. He had this little buddy who would dance around and run into us repeatedly. Someone tried to use nightstick justice on him and he went all Wolverine on the crowd. He finally puked up whatever substances made him act that way.
D-fest brought people in from all over. I talked to a guy who drove in from Little Rock just to see Zappa. This thing has so much potential.

Yeah, annoyed me really bad last night. Could've been that I was sober though.
Between the the Brady District (Canes, Brady Theater, Sound Pony, etc.), the PAC having a few music acts, the new BOk Center getting big draws and Dfest downtown, Country Fever, and Rocklahoma in Pryor... Tulsa is really starting to get a damn nice music scene. I hope the snowball starts to roll and continues to grow!

What do you mean by that? The performers? Or the crowd was flashing and stripping?
Was anyone arrested?
zpz was far and away the best act i'd seen all weekend.
absolutely incredible musicians. I'd love to see a full set. It was great seeing the kiddies mass exodus for the gate too. some get it, some don't.
Best thing Tulsa has going for it. Hands down, no contest. This thing will be huge within 2-3 years.

Crowd was wasted and people were in the mood. That's all I got for you.
No arrest for love making at DFest that I can report to the forums as of right now. Stay tuned.

Well, I don't think podunk festivals in Pryor count (nor do I want them to?)...but this festival is something the city should really embrace.
I read in the paper they would like to expand it across the city. They should do this as soon as possible.
From small bands to large bands...utilize every single venue in the city for a weekend. Then go from there...
What do all of the best cities have in common? Great live music. It's not up for debate...you can go after the generic OKC way of doing things or we can go after the arts. The latter is where it's at. You get that, then everything will follow.
Ghostland Observatory was absolutely stunning. Those guys are unlike anything else and I can't wait to see them again. I haven't been able to get their music out of my head since Friday. I hope they were telling the truth when they said they would be back and that they loved the crowd.

I was thinking the same thing about Cavedoll. They seemed impressed by the crowd and said that they would be proud to party any time in Tulsa.
Word on the street is Cain's has booked Ghostland Observatory!!!!! YES!!!!!!!! More details as soon as I hear them.

Solid.
I never heard Ghostland Obzervatory until the d-fest. Impressive, and pleasant when played LOUDLY.
GLO will be playing Cain's on November 22.

Same night as NIN. :( BOO! I'm choosing Ghostland, as I've seen NIN twice before.
I missed GLO at D-Fest and was incredibly bummed! This couldn't be better news and I have to imagine that seeing them in the Cains will probably provide for a better show than in the large outdoors area. Everyone I know that's seen them has given great reviews. This is FANTASTIC!

Definitely no worse, but I don't know about better either. As long as it is dark, I think their show will always kick @$$. I bet they thought it was cool to play in front of the crowd with the downtown backdrop from their perspective. The view from the stage would have been awesome that night at D-fest. It was cool just turning and looking back at the buildings from the crowd.
I think downtown is a great venue for D-Fest. Has anyone heard what the economic impact was?
Not suggesting that D-fest is no good downtown at all. Only suggesting that I personally think I will enjoy seeing Ghostland inside up close. My dfest experience downtown was beyond awesome!
Our Tulsa - I missed your post and didn't mean to imply you thought downtown was a bad venue.
I'm glad to see more downtown than just Mayfest. I am still curious what the economic impact was. If D-Fest was economically successful, it should encourage even more downtown.
On a side note, I loved it had a conference component.
