Title: Best place to get oil changed?
Post by: thefaustfive on July 17, 2008, 09:49:54 AM
I'd been going to Shell Rapid Lube (Texaco before they changed) at 21st and Sheridan for at least 7 years - pumping in over $1400 worth of services until they screwed me over at the last change.

I had a transmission flush and a new guy was there "training" or whatever.  The very next day husband and 3 kids took a trip to Kansas and at a dinner stop near Ponca City saw transmission fluid all over the ground.  $300 later, my family arrived at their destinaton at 1:00 in the morning.  [tired dad and 3 kids age 11, 9, and 6]

Shell won't reimburse us the $300 because they didn't do the work yet I'm sure the "new guy" did something wrong.

So, as you can see I will not use Shell Rapid Lube again and I urge you not to, as well.

I'm in the market for a new oil change location and wondered where you prefer?

do you do regular flushes or was this the first time?
how many miles are on the car?

A Trans Flush will flush out the crud, but sometimes that crud is prventing leaks. So if you do want to do trans flush, make sure you do them often or not at all.

To answer you question though, I use Kwik Kar @ 91st Sheridian.

I tool around in a old heap so I do a tranny oil change at a transmission shop every 50,000 miles or so. As for the engine oil I do that myself so I know it's done right and the right oil is put in. I have heard too many horror stories about oil change workers putting the oil drain plug in too tight and stripping out the threads causing big problems and you really don't know what kind of oil they are putting in it, I change my oil myself so I know it's done right.. the workers at many oil change joints come & go, The turn over rate is high. The best bet I'd say is do it yourself it's easy to do and Auto Zone takes in the used oil, if you can't do it yourself have it done at at a regular shop like Firestone. I'd avoid those fast lube joints.

I use the Hibdon Tire Plus on Aspen in Broken Arrow. So far after 3 Years they have done a very good job on all Three of my Family vehicles. My only complaint was one time I sat for almost Three Hours waiting on a oil change bay to become free and when they were finally done with my vehicle, they had spent a large amount of that time inspecting my van and made a huge list of preventive things that was needing my attention. So now upon arriving I inform them upfront that I just want a oil change and no preventive inspection. So far so good.

The van is a 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 135,000 miles.  About 110,000 miles we had a new transmission put in.  Around 120,000 miles we needed a new engine.

Nothing has been flushed since those things.  Only the oil changed.  Maybe we need a new car!

That means you pretty much have a new vehicle now. Your all set to drive another 100,000 miles plus. I tool around in a old 1990 F-150 with 200,000 miles on the clock. I have a 302 V-8 (5.0L)

Incinas on Peoria always treated me right no matter what I went there for. Friends started going there to get their cars fixed, oil changes, etc. and everyone reported back that they really liked how they were treated and how reasonable the costs were. Good, honest, mechanics.
