In an extraordinary move, the Bush administration is publishing a document Friday listing various ways to control global-warming gases, while simultaneously disavowing the document's conclusions and warning that new regulations could lead to a "command-and-control" regime covering a "broad range of commercial and household activities," including factories and power plants but also lawnmowers.
The document, which has been the subject of a weeks-long conflict between officials at the White House and Environmental Protection Agency, attempts to summarize the benefits and costs of regulating greenhouse gas emissions, without drawing any conclusions.

Okay, Bush is a dunderhead, we get it FOTD. I seriously doubt there's more than a handful of Americans who aren't just holding their breath until November.
EPA though is a run-away bureaucracy which has created many unintended consequences and hardships for individuals and corporations alike.
What schmucks these Aholes in the White House are.... Bush Administration Will Ignore Its Own Notice on CO2 Emissions

Iraq to revive oil deal with China

Those ungrateful Iraqi's!
We may officially dub Bush & Cheney as Dumb & Dumber. They really thought all you had to do to get someone's oil was to invade. The Chinese only had to ask. I guess the Chinese will start one trillion dollars ahead of us.
Diplomacy: cheaper than war and more profitable.

Those two kids can really be little devils when they get into a toy store.
So, you think spending a trillion dollars in Iraq worked out?

Sorry about that, I was only thinking that appeasement didn't work. It just happened to be the most prominent example that I could think of. I am sure there are others.
Bush: Ivy education (higher GPA than Kerry too). Fighter pilot. Ran several businesses in oil and major league baseball. Governor of Texas. President of the United States.
FOTD: Posts a lot on the internets.

I'd say he did something right. The "Bush is Stupid" mantra is amazingly worn. Perhaps you could you think he does stupid things, but that is not indicative of intelligence on either side of the argument.
Bush is a nazi.
FOTD is a fascist.
Santa is as bad as Hitler.
FFS people, let these threads die (says the pot to the kettle).
Wait, are we warming again? I thought the last news was that we were cooling over the last 7 years. I'm so confused.
If we're warming again can we go back to calling it Global Warming or is it still Climate Change or Climate Crisis? Will Al Gore have to change the text on his website again?
Perhaps we should just call it "Global Catastrophe" then we can continuously adjust our lifestyles as needed. Warm, hot, wet, dry, partly cloudy, moist, moldy, too much methane, too little CO2, Too much CO2, frizzy hair, dry fly-away hair.
Adopt your own monster, and you too can be a politician.
We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we may have. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest. – Stephen Schneider, environmental activist, in "Discover", Oct. '89

So maybe you can help me understand what's diplomacy and what's appeasement? Or is ALL diplomacy appeasement?
Seems to me if you take talk off the table, you limit yourself to two options: war or not war. Is that how we should conduct ourselves?

Dictionary stuff:
Diplomacy: the art and practice of conducting negotiations between nations.
Appease: pacify, conciliate; esp: to buy off by concessions appeasement n
Simple terms:
Diplomacy: You don't punch my face and I won't break your kneecaps.
Appeasement: I'll kiss your feet if you don't punch in my face. (Then wait to be kicked in the butt.)
To tie this back to previous statements, I don't agree with FOTD that the primary purpose of invading Iraq was to get oil. If that were the case, I agree it is much cheaper to buy it. Diplomacy isn't needed, just money and possibly a contract.
The proof may be in the bottle.....

The National Enquirer had such specific details of the Edwards trip to the hotel in Beverly Hills that he could have sued them for libel if it weren't true. And as sleazy as these publications are, The Enquirer was credited with being one of the more accurate sources on the Lewinsky scandal. The Globe has been alleging Laura is leaving for some time now.
Yeah. He looks drunk. And when you think about all the other meds they probably have him on ....Why should the doofus not drink? He and Cheney have sure driven the rest of us to drink!

I can read the dictionary, but your implications were very different. If we're talking about the Munich Agreement, there's virtually no historical comparison to Saddam vs. the US. Essentially, that's why I've got a problem with it. It's a disingenuous comparison, and is more about domestic politics than it is about geopolitics.
And I'm still not sure, to be honest, why we DID invade Iraq. So much has turned out to be false -- and known at the time to be false -- that it's no wonder people make these conspiracy theory leaps into "war for oil" territory. In the absence of a motive, people will create one.

Therefore, you would not accept any explanation I give since it depends on why I think we went to war in Iraq. Not for oil. WMD would have been a good find but not necessary in my mind. Saddam was a bad person. Bad enough to get rid of. Due to word sensitivities of some people on this forum, even when used in a historically correct context, I will not explain further.

The devil has friends who are bad people, some badder than Hussein.
How can anyone be so coned as to not understand that this war in Iraq was one to set a Middle East foothold for am armed presence and two for oil. If you don't understand the history of oil and American Oil Companies in the middle east, then you've never heard or read about the big red circle. Certainly you don't think we'd have gone there to get rid of Hussein just for the Israelis?
