I just bought a house. The former owners used Cox Cable, and the place is all set up with the box and everything.
A bit earlier, I found a line plugged into an exterior outlet. I followed it all the way to the Cox Cable Box.
??
Now, I use Directv, so this is just weird to me. I'd like to just unplug it, but I want to make sure Cox Cable boxes really *do* have to plug into exterior electrical outlets.
Is this weird? Or is this just the way Cox Cable does it?
That isn't generally how COX does it. What you're seeing is a signal amplifier but it may have been installed by the homeowner and not COX.

That sounds like a signal booster. a very old one at that. you must live in a pretty old neighborhood because Cox builds out these days to accomodate future demand.
House build in 1940, and no new ones for miles around.
In any case, it's getting unplugged.
Thanks, you all! or as the kids these days say: kthxbai! [:o)]
