The OPENING ANNOUNCEMENTS will come tomorrow at 10AM.
We have now learned that Garth Brooks will not be the first to perform, but will cut the ribbon at the BOK Center opening.
Whoever it is, will they be kind of a big deal?
No Garth? Must be The Eagles then.
I think you all are putting way too much emphasis on the first act. I am sure whomever is selected will cause some to cheer and others will be disappointed.
We could get Obama, the Pope, Hannah Montana, and Elvis back from the dead to sing barbershop and somebody will post that they aren't "big" enough.
What really matters is the first year of acts. I want to see lots of performers, not just one.
Someone needs to let the folks running the arena know about this new kind of music called Rock & Roll.

I'm guessing that tomorrow they'll prove that they already know about it. [8D]
Phish?
but, really....c'mon somebody knows.
I fear it is more of the same - that being nothing of interest to the 18-50 year old non-country fans.
That and everything in Tulsa sucks anyway.

I know people who know, but won't tell me. I tend to believe that they know. The TW and tv news stations are well aware at this point.
Today's press conference was all about answering why the heck Brooks isn't opening, since he's the blatantly obvious choice. And this kind of confirms that Brooks is weird guy to me; I guess it's cool that he puts family first and all that, but this was a no-brainer for him.
the opening act will be the eagles. media has been told to keep it quiet

Media hasn't done a very good job. I've known that now (as well as other forum posters) for about two weeks. It was also rumored earlier this spring.
well, get the word out then so they'll be forced to announce it ahead of schedule and their thunder will be stolen.
We have all been here before, we have all been here before.....
Well I'm a-running down the road trying to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that want to own me, two that want to stone me
One says she's a friend of mine
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand and take it easy
Well I'm a-standin' on the corner in Tulsa, Oklahoma
With such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my lord, in a flatbed ford
Aiming her rifle right at me
Come on baby, don't say maybe
I've got to know if your sweet love is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win
But we will never be here again
Open up I'm climbin' in to take it easy
Well I'm a-running down the road trying to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover who won't blow my cover
She's just a little hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Come on baby, don't say maybe
I've got to know if your sweet love is gonna save me
You know we got it easy
We oughta take it easy
If Jackson Browne opens, I'd go. I'd go if it were Jackson Browne.....but he'd more likely play the Brady.
Take it easy....
Why just another concert by a national band to open up with?
Be different and with this group in charge of the decision , that scares me[;)]
Originally it was scheduled for 8am. wonder why the change.
Many people have known for awhile. One often obnoxious member has known for awhile and posted it on here but I never wanted to confirm his insider tip.
Like the devil's disciple is really going to affect ticket sales or spoil the news for the city using this fringe forum!
I'm not worried about any of that, just don't want to boost your ego in any way.

LOL....posts well with others (every once in a while)
Actually, I am hoping to be wrong and it will be the Allman Brother's with Phil and Friends opening. But that's good for about 7000 seats whereas The Eagels might sell it out.
I kinda wish the opening would be dual headliners and seat prices adjusted so anyone with $30 can get in, at least to the cheap seats. Just something that doesn't come along everyday.

This may upset you, but I agree.
Maybe I should quit this thread while I'm ahead.
Well, the Tulsa World is trying to be sneaky and beat all of the other news media outlets to the "big" announcement by saying that they saw that the Eagles will be performing on Sept. 6 which is the opening night at BOK. I'm sure they were bored in the news room and were surfing the web and found it. WHATEVER!
http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?articleID=20080708_11_TheEa46213
Yeah, guess which news site they found it on.
Heard Channel 6 was doing the same thing last night..
The Eagles Summer Tour, 2008
September 06, 2008 - BOK Center
Tulsa, OK
Public On Sale: 7/21
http://www.eaglesband.com/tour.php?page=1
Tickets will probably be $50 - $185. I'm guessing they will go on sale within a week.
- - -
I'm disappointed in the act and that AOX was right. Seriously, chock another one up for the 50 and older crowd. But, another wildly popular act for the BOk center I guess.

you realized you quoted the part where it said "on sale 7/21" and then guessed on when the tickets would go on sale?
The Philadelphia Eagles football team is playing the BOK?
Cool. Who are they playing?

Heh. No, I didn't realize I quoted when ticket sales would go on sale and then took a guess. The good news is my guess wasn't too far off. Thanks for correcting me, dear. [B)]
Not that the Eagles are a bad choice, but it's not seem all that thrilling to me. Honestly, if you want to demonstrate how Tulsa is modernizing itself, the Eagles don't seem to be the ticket (no pun intended).
Tulsa World is reporting on their website it is indeed the Eagles.

I know a friend, who is a friend of second-cousin, who is aunt of a niece, who is married to a man, who said that it is the Eagles.
Take it for what it's worth... [:P]
How friggin appropriate...'you can check out BUT...'
I bet it's going to be Garth.
Look on the bright side, at least there will be pot smoking at the first major concert. Never seems like a "big" concert without the a nice waft of pot over the crowd for some reason. I prefer to be sober and lucid at shows, but that's just me (paid $$$ for some tickets before, don't remember the show, lesson: no point getting messed up at a paid event).
Or are the Eagles fans now too old to smoke pot? I suppose most of the old school hippie Eagle fans are too poor. The yuppy ones probably don't smoke any more. Wow, I just don't know. If anyone goes, fill me in on this interesting paradigm. Otherwise, the shows appear to be fairly tame (not that some smot poking Eagles fans will be trouble makers).
Wait, this is a "no smoking" facility. [8D]

Seriously, one of the weirdest posters on TU board, with no taste for anything (believes Captain D's is the best place to eat in Tulsa), talked about how great the Eagles are live. That's like getting an endorsement from Michael Brown. You'll have some folks wearing Chico's at this one . . . so, so lame.
Can't they have a follow-up show with a band that is actually still creative the next night -- a sort of "cleansing" of the lameness?
This is like going to your first party in college with your parents.
It' may not be that bad. The Eagles are a pretty big deal. Have the eagles even played in OK before?
They played the Ford Center after they opened and the Zoo Amphitheater in the last year or two.
For those of you who receive the BOK Center Insider emails (kind of pointless since the word is always leaked in advance) receive 3 emails this morning about the Eagles concert?? I didn't know if it was just me that was lucky enough to receive the overkill in email. I have never had the problem before. They must have been so excited when they sent the email...
I only got it once.

OKC Zoo
And I just double-checked my facts, it was Henley only for that concert.
I knew The Eagles Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is the the biggest selling rock band album of all time. Although I used to hear that either Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon or Carole King's Tapestry was the biggest selling rock album ever, depending on who you asked.
I didn't realize The Eagles are the third best-selling band of all time (behind The Beatles and Led Zeppelin) until I read it in today's Tulsa World.
Pink Floyd must be pretty high on the list as well, considering the sales of Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall? Oh well, I guess all this 1970s talk is dating me, lol.

I still remember that brilliant morning talk show host saying it wouldn't be built. "We have cranes in the air!" he would say almost every morning, before any Vision 2025 cranes were actually up.

I bought their self-titled 1991 album, sometimes called The Black Album. It was a huge seller, a real mainstream commercial breakthrough for them at the time.
I never had any of their earlier albums, but have heard several of the better known songs from them. They are certainly one of the definitive bands in the metal genre.
I remember them playing in Tulsa sometime around 1992. In a local interview one of the band members commented that Tulsa seemed to have more metal fans than OKC.

Loaded, which is the one just after the Black Album. That (The Black Album) was their panacaea, so to speak. Not much more to do after that one. I think their best album was

we weren't very picky about which show we were going to go to. so, i went through every show trying to find the best seats. depending on which day i chose, i got either sec F1, F2, F3, or F5. the furthest back that came up was row F in sec F3 for saturday afternoon.
I really question how good the seats in sections F1, F2, F6 and F7 are.

yeah, since the cheapest seats are kind of behind F1 and F7, we were wondering about that too.
I got F4 row B for Friday night.
I'm pretty excited. I got 6 tickets for Friday night. F4 Row F. If I'm reading the chart right, that is dead center, six rows back. I can't wait.
They lit up the big glass wall facing south tonight. First time I've seen it lit up. It's stunning. It changes colors between a bunch of flourescent greens, purples, pinks, and blues.
