I just love the way Latin people just keep on keeping on. And Tulsa is so lucky that Latinos have decided to call our sleepy burg their home. They provide much needed spice for our otherwise unflavored fare.
Here's a recent story from the Tulsa World about a new local Latin channel.
"KXAP, Tulsa's first Hispanic television station, is set to go on air at 6 a.m. Friday on digital channel 51.0 (channel 51).
Licensed as a low-power digital television station, KXAP, also known as TeleTul, will broadcast 50 percent local programming, said Randy Lidster, the station's programming and production director.

i took latin for 7 years (3 years hs and 4 of college) even minored in classics...

Why the **** can't they just watch the English speaking channels?
What's next a Thai station? Vietnamese perhaps? How about Farsi. Hell let's just have a damn channel for every language of every person who lives in this state.

Was it 1998 when the Los Angeles Times came out with their new Style Book? At that time they changed "Hispanic" to "Latino," believing it more accurately reflected the people they were describing. Since then, you may have noticed, Latino has become the preferred word choice. It even includes among many others, people with no "Spanish" blood who grew up in Spanish culture.

If you want a Cherokee channel (which I think would be incredible to have even a general Native American channel) or an Irish channel, get your funding together, get your permits all approved and go for it. what is the local access channel, maybe you can start there. You have my vote as the idea being a good thing.
Well if you would like to see a channel in Cherokee that broadcasts drinking games then put up the money and start one yourself.

Amen. Let's make it easy for them. Obviously they cannot learn the English language so by all means let's cater to their every whim. Let's have radio, television, drivers license exams, billboards, road signs and newspapers in their native language. Heaven forbid they come to this country and have to learn the language!

Have you ever been to Europe, Asia, Mexico, or South America? There are English speaking channels in all those places. I don't see why this is so controversial, it's not like you're the one paying for it. Geez. If you moved to France, but learned to speak French, that doesn't mean you want to watch all your TV in French...I think it would give me a headache trying to translate everything. If people want to read Spanish language books, watch Spanish language movies, or speak Spanish to each other in the privacy of their own homes, what's the big deal?
I grew up in Tulsa and I speak only English but I enjoy watching Sabado Gigante on Saturday nights. It's something like the most popular, longest running show in the U.S. It's broadcast out of Miami. I like having more choice.
